Tilpa Gal
Hi, I am hoping someone can help me. My Dad is wanting to buy a dog whistle (NOT a silent one) suitable for training working (sheep) dogs (Kelpies) as he has lost a few teeth and can no longer whistle. We live in rural NSW. What type/brand of whistles have people used? Where did you buy your whistle? Does anyone know where you can buy them online? Thanx in advance! Staff'n'Toller
The blackdog one isn't silent, but it isn't particularly loud either. This is probably the type he is after. The only place in Oz I can find on with a quick google search is here. But I would try www.callicoma.com.au, email them, they may have some. Cheers, Mel. Edit: Janba's is the cheapest! Mooper
A lot of ladies at sheepdog school down here use and recommend the A1 aluminium whistle from the Sheepdog Shop in the UK.
PAX
A sheepdog guy gave me a lip whistle and I can't get it to make a sound.
Sardog
I have tried the whistle type as shown above and they are very hard to master. The Ray Gonia Dog Whistle is what I use in search & rescue and you may be able to purchase one or similar from John Lawton at Specialised Dog Accessories in Victoria, there are a number of different types available and they are really good for dog work. Pm me for his phone number. I will try to post a pic - not sure if it will work though

dasha
If you contact the Working Kelpie Council they sell them. Not sure of price but from memory are only a few dollars
RachelleBuck
If you dad wants to use the traditional whistle try the ones from the Kelpie club. Also tell him to keep practicing using them as they take time to master as to where your tounge needs to be each. I know someone that it took them well over 6 months to get all their sounds out nice and clear. Whistles make a great training tool though so best of luck getting one that suits and he can use best!!!
