How Do U Know When...

Besides the obvious answer of taking the dog to the vet,

how do u know when ur furkid is having a fever? symptoms etc... mine is a double coated girl so just wondering...

I feel their skin, for example the face or neck, with my wrist. They should feel a little warmer than your skin but not a lot.

Also, dogs with fevers become listless and lie around and sleep all the time.

even if their face is covered with fur? or does my wrist need to touch bare skin...

Touch the inside of their leg/belly - it will give you a good indication of if they have a fever - or the good old thermometer up the butt

A thermometer from the Chemist should cost you about $10. Don't know if they still sell the mercury ones, but a digital is safer if you are gonna buy one. Feeling the skin in the groin area as kitkat said is a good indicator, but even then they sometimes feel hotter than they really are.

Personally i think if you now your dog well you have a good idea when there not quite right coat or not.

We do use the thermo in the ear & get a good enough comparsion to up the butt
