ruthless
I've notice recently that Chopper looks a bit stiff sometimes. Especially when he gets up from sleeping or a long nap. He runs pretty hard for about 15mins every morning + 30-50min walk. OH reckons maybe it's too much, but he's a really high energy dog and I need to tire him so he doesn't nuisance bark when we're out. He's ony 2, do you think I should be giving him Glucosamine or something?
KOE
He may have pulled a muscle high up in his thigh area, put your hand up under the groin area and see if the tendons are tight if they are you may need to go to a doggy manipulator. ~Archie~
There is no harm giving Glucosamine/Chondroitin as a preventative. We have one dog on Joint Guard as a preventative, because she is older and still really active, loves to run with us.
Staffyluv
I agree with both of the above responses. If he runs flat out for a while, he may well have pulled a muscle. My sisters girl just did the same thing and hers was near her back and it pinched a nerve which made it harder for her to get around poor girl. The vet gave her an injection and then manipulated her back and she is fine now after a bit of rest. Starting him on joint guard or something similar now is a good idea for prevention later on. Glad I have on of those laid back staffords - he can still go flat out but he is really cruisey compared to my sisters girl, our first boy and lots of others I have seen. MonElite
how old is he? ditto to the glucosamine and shark cartlidge. Plus give him some fish oil capsules. And perhaps get a visit with a chiropractor.
ruthless
2! Sure weren't you invited to his birthday party He gets racing oil, and fish about 4 times a week. Will try the joint formula and see if it helps. Chiropractor? Really? Just for stiffness?
Staffyluv
Yep chiropractor - it could be a pinch in a nerve. They tend to be stiff if they have back pain. He is so cute..
NorthernStarPits
A nice little massage after exercise would be nice
peigirl
I'd go Bowen. My boy gets muscle bound and the Bowen is great for him. Much gentler than chiro too.
