My thoughts are DONT GIVE IN.

2 of mine have carried on like prk chops for 2-3 nights.

They got tough love, growled ata nd then ignored, praised when wuiet.

I ended up on the 3rd night using a water pistol.

(yes i know - not preferable) I had to squirt twice and no noise.

They still love their crate.

My Shar Pei bitch carried on for 13 nights before I caved in and let her sleep in a dog bed on the floor of my room

I slept with my hand on her most of the night and it made her happy

I crate trained her in the day time and over small intervals but she was 4 months before she would go into the crate at night and sleep with no crying

Some dogs hate crates

I would put her in your room for the first few nights to get her used to it, or sleep in the room she is in

Try putting a hot water bottol in her crate; wrap it well; so she cant chew @ it ;she is missing her snuggle partners; just being taken from her litter mates ;hang in there it will pass in a few days ;try not to get to stressed cause they pick up on your feeling ;good luck

I was going to suggest this too. Chilli is just missing her litter mates and needs company. If not your other dog, then a Snuggle Puppie should do just as well. My baby was too scared and tired to cry the first night, but the second and third nights were pretty harrowing. I think the Snuggle Puppie helped, although now she just uses it as another "kill" toy!!

Hang in there newpup! I'm finding that you sometimes have to be cruel to be kind with dogs, especially puppies as they need to learn their boundaries.

Some puppies are just screamers....you don't expect though eh!

With Dante, I kinda went overboard when we brought him home, we got him one of those Snuggle Puppies that has a heat pack and heart thumping machine in it, he slept with it every night until he was 5 months old we he told me he didn't need it anymore by tearing it up!

I him crated, I think it makes them feel more secure than a puppy pen?

I would put in a chewy treat, it would take him about 20 minutes to chew through it and then he would have a wee wimper and go to sleep then wake in the night twice to tell me he needed to toilet.

I had the crate in the bedroom next to my bed and would dangle my arm down so he knew I was there but I wouldn't touch him or give him any attention when he was complaining.

We also used to play with him an hour before bed to really tire him out.

I purchased a CD (from the US) called "Canine Lullabies". It is "Heartbeat Music Therapy".

I used it once for a restless, whiney pup that stayed here for the day. It seemed to do the trick.

Someone else (via DOL) contacted me and I suggested it to her - this person I think was having quite a bit of trouble with her pup not settling down. She wrote back to me to let me know she got it and it worked wonders.

Now - that's only TWO occasions ..... hardly enough to be able to confidently attest to its success. But it might be worth trying out.

Maybe try wearing an old tshirt for a day then putting it in with your pup. That has settled all of my dogs even the ones that we got as older dogs. Although on dog I used to have to telephone every day when I went away for a week (for work) lol. (He was a family pet when I was living at home). I was also going to suggest the hot water bottle and maybe a ticking clock.

:D  Gee I wish I knew about crate training when I had my daughter....she cried for 12 months non stop......LOL

I hope all has settled down for you now.

Thanks for the Laugh Kavik.

Swap you for a screaming baby! :champagne:

Seriously, I crated mine in the bedroom at the start, only had a few nights of crying. Though Staffies do have a particularly distressing sounding cry and can produce some amazing noises
