Daxilly
Hi, My 3yo ACD has just thrown-up 8 hours after applying her fortnightly Advantix. While this does not happen all the time, it has now occurred enough times for me to think this is not a coincidence. Usual it happens 8-9 hours after application. I will obviously stop using it, but was wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience. Reading a previous post about using Frontline and the dog's reaction to just seeing the tube, made me think that it is something I need to look more closely into. We live in a high tick area so thought I was doing the right thing. We do, however, check both dogs morning and night so do not rely solely on the Advantix application. Any comments and suggestions welcome.
jbbb
Flame came up in hives all over her body the day after I put Advantix on her. I contacted Bayer and they sent me a trial pack of Advance and I've been using that since (it doesnt cover ticks though). Apparently some dogs are allergic to different things (just like humans). If you contact Bayer, I'm sure they'll give you some more info.
Poodle wrangler
I haven't had any problems using Advantix. jbbb's idea sounds good to me- they should be able to tell you when the medication is at peak concentration in the dog's system. Seems strange that it doesn't happen each time it's applied, though Is it more likely to be coincidence? Tick collars are another option. Cheaper, too. Frontline Plus? Dogs dying from paralysis tick is worse than a potential adverse reaction IMO :D . All medications are poisons, really, if you want to look at it that way... BrunoBella
I agree with Poodlewrangler, a bit of vomiting is not worth stopping the paralysis tick treatment. One of my dogs threw up three times today (thanks Bruno ) before his fortnightly Advantix. We have no problems with it at all. Good luck BellasPerson
sheree_e4
Maybe try using frontline next time as they have different active ingredients, and you could also use permoxin with frontline or by itself aswell must be applied weekly (DO not use with advantix) I have been using frontline on all my pets for the past 9 yrs and have never had any problems and they have nver had a tick on them in that time I live in Narooma about 2 hrs south of you. I am in an extreamly bad tick area with at least one animal a day being brought into work, its because of the weather as soon as it rains and then its humid the next day out come the ticks,I will guarentee that if it is sunny tomorrow we will have more cases by tomorrow arvo.(I am a vet nurse).
