ness
As the heading suggests - just curious if anybody has thought about what they wish to achieve during the 2008 trialling year in whatever doggy sports they participate in. kelpiechick
After missing the end of 'trialling season' 2005 and two thirds of 2006 due to severe injury (to dog) my goals are very different to what they used to be. My goal is to genuinely have fun running agility with my dog, to remember to smile at him at the start line and to stay connected for the whole run. To be thankful for the privilege of having a dog who chooses to run with me no matter what the outcome and to remember that there is always another trial, another run and that in the scheme of things dog agility actually counts for very little. To remember that no one ever remembers your run except for yourself and to 'embrace my holes' (thanks Susan Garrett) as they give focus to my training sessions. To appreciate the joy of 'full out running' with my dog. (thanks Elicia Calhoun) To remember that my dog has practically no flexion in one wrist joint and as such works a lot more slowly when turning in one direction - this is now 'normal' for him and if I get a course with a lot of 'bad direction' turns then big deal - no stressing about lack of speed, as I handle badly when I go into 'howler monkey' mode. To keep my training diary a lot more up to date. To remember that this is a journey (not a 'title destination') that I am lucky enough to be making with an awesome dog , learning loads of stuff along the way, and that titles happen when they happen - no matter how hard I work there may still be factors outside my control - deal with it! Finally, to lose 5 kilos so I can keep up with my new dog

ness
Great post Kelpiechick . My main goal for 2008 is to be much more consistent and part of that means not giving into the pressure of those training around me. I am going to go home from my two weeks I have had training with a whole new outlook on what I need to do to succeed. Having said that though part of that is making the game much more exciting and not falling into bad habits of rewarding any old effort. On the title front I do hope to get those remaining two passes for her JDM title, finish off her ADM and get her ADO (and SD if I can get my head around the rules long enough to pass ). I hope to also make it into the UD ring. I would like to get through an Open heel pattern with no missed positions . Whatever happens I am sure we will have as much fun as we have had this year - like Kelpiechick said quallies (and titles) aren't the be all and end all as long as everybody is having fun that is all that matters. Janba
I have thought about what I want to achieve, but whether it happens or not is another matter. Mishka and Moss definitely their tracking titles as they are both ready to trial, I just didn't get time last season. Mishka maybe the last leg of her CD, but I've been saying that for 2 1/2 years and not trialling her Moss to start trialling agility and maybe a CCD. The pup to trial in 3 sheep and ANKC herding (will do his PT at the first trials next year).
Riles
To have fun with Rosie doing everything she enjoys, any titles/passes will just be an added bonus Cheers Riles
Ptolomy
Argh trailling goals for 2008. Hmm let me see....................... For me to have less blonde moments - or at least for my blonde moments to coincide with my dogs blonde moments so that I only fail half as many trials For the toller tree to stay empty for the year - ha - fat chance of that For me not to get lost on a masters agility or jumping course - ha fat chance of that For me not to forget my dumbbell, scent articles or seekback when I go to a country trial so that I have to beg borrow or steal somebody elses. For me to put the lid back on my jackpot containers so that I don't end up with sardine juice and steak blood all through my bag. For my dogs to stay fit, healthy and uninjured so that I don't get to fund three overseas holidays for my specialist vet again this year - ha fat chance of that So now if I pray to the right gods, the wind is blowing in the right direction, the planets are aligned and I can manage all of the above then I hope for CH CCD CD JD and AD titles for Lexi, OC for Scoota, two more UDX legs for Lara, CD CDX and maybe a UD leg, ADM and JDM for Beans and Blaize well see number two above may the toller tree stay empty
bridgie_cat
hmm... I suppose I would just like the chance to enter some trials! That is the best I can hope for since I will be going to uni and leaving her with the family for the year
Kavik
I would like to get Kaos and I up to trialling standard in agility and do more herding.
poodlefan
I'd like Darce's JDM and ADM next year. If I get my shite together, we might get going in obedience. I also hope to successfully resist the urge to choke the living shit out of those handlers who whine and bitch about every damn thing at trials and never lift a finger to help at their clubs or anyone elses. I don't know if I can resist much longer.
pie
I would love for me and Kyzer to be ready to enter a novice trial in 2008 - I know it's a big goal but it would be great!
Amerykus
for me Id love to get my last pass for my JDX title and the 2 passes I need for my ADX title... also I'm hoping to get my girl into Obedience.... she's good at it, I'm NOT ! LOL And as for having fun.... as soon as we arrive at a trial we have fun... I'm not that competitive, the whole reason I started agility was to have fun with my dog and that's what we do.. and we TRY to entertain the crowd with our "special" handling skills! Kowai
Weightpulling - Want to gain our Working Weight Pull Dog title Need three more passes.. Agility - Want to be promoted up in training and do as well as we can. Not allowed to use the weave poles anymore so I'm not sure about competition.. Obedience - Want to gain our CCD title.. We need all three passes though and alot of practice
MrsD
Jonty - get his PT & hopefully start competing in HSA. Don't have to have the HSA title, just be competing in it would be good. Also for Jonty & Dagboy to get at least 1 qualifier in agility (whatever class they compete in). Jarrah - get his HSA title (only 1 leg to go) & his HIA title. CCD & Novice in obedience. Whisper - HIC & perhaps CCD. Anything else is a bonus.
JulesP
Apart from having fum with the doggies and improving my training and handling skills, I would like to have a go at CCD with Brock. I would also like to get Brock retrieving so I can pass the final class at school! With Poppy I would like to have a go at showing (but I am already really enjoying the obedience training with her!). I have pretty modest aims, lol.
FHRP
I would love to get my old boys (Flynn) GDM title, but I think that's just a dream. We just can't get our sh&t together in Masters Gamblers and have only managed one pass!! Hope to finish his SPDX title, only one more to go. If we can find a partner (sadly his current one will be retired for all but that last SPDX pass) then we'll see how SPDM goes. SDM maybe? I am surpised at how much Flynn enjoys snooker, only 6 passes left for that one Snooker just doesn't seem to be offered as much as the other two games. However, Flynn will be trialed sparingly in agility. Our aim in the obedience ring is not to embarass ourlseves too much in UD With Rogan pretty much the same actually! His Masters games titles! I'd also like to keep up the consistency in agility we've had this year. A few more wins in Masters would be nice so I can dream of an Ag Ch one day I'd love some better consistency in Retrieving trials this year and hopefully some more placements in Restricted (those last 2 wins would be magic). This year may well be his last in Retrieving, in which case we'll think about tracking. Hopefully by the end of the year I'll have dabbled enough with him in UD training that he'll be ready to compete. Finishing his show title would also be nice Trialing wise with Polo I'm not expecting a lot. We hope to cement the foundations in training and enter both retrieving trials and the obedience ring. A CCD would be nice and an NRD would be fanastic! I hope to start some agility equipment training late next year but he won't trial until the year after at the earliest. This is fun Traditionally this is a conversation we have on New Years as we welcome in the New trialing year with fellow doggy people, a perfect start :D
Sayreovi
Nova - Would like to really focus on agility and obedience, doesnt matter if we dont compete this year as he needs to become really solid before i attempt it again!! Also plan on giving tracking a go. Darcy - Like Nova i will be focusing on agility and obedience more but we will be competing as soon as the season starts again. Would like to achieve at least an ADX and CDX but we will see how we go. Tracking is on the agenda as well and (hopefully) retrieving trials, only beginner tests as i dont have the time to train for "proper" classes
The Spotted Devil
I've been doing a lot of 'informal' obedience training with Zig at home....now it's really time to begin to put it all together! He's just turned one and is really beginning to mature mentally (no, really! )......I'd like to trial him in 2008 in CCD....been years since I've been in the ring I can't wait until we start agility training together....I know he's able to do light work now but I prefer not to risk his physical development and wait until he's 18 months old. But we started in herding in April & got his HIC, HT & PT as well as his 2 legs in HSA this year instead of the obedience which is why the obedience is this year . 2. Jonty - one of my main aims for him is to teach him to catch a frisbee!!!!!!! Sick of taking him to frisbee competitions & getting 0 points .
