Dog Aggression Sorted Out

Hi Kateshep, she sounds sort of like Diesel :) Not enough prey drive to use, will work for food but is not as keen on food or motivated in general as my Kelpies. Really he would much rather just hang out and socialise than do any form of training

Wow, the changes happened in only 3 weeks? I've had e-collars gathering dust for ages now and I think this post is going to make me get off my arse and actually use them. [No, I know you'll believe it when you see it Steve!] All our issues were resolved with obedience classes and positive experiences with other dogs at the dog park, but a reliable recall would be a real bonus. I'll report back in 3 weeks :banghead:

Congratulations on your hard work and dedication to your dogs, now that is love.

I really enjoyed reading your story, and it is amazing that such a huge change has occurred within 3 weeks... it just shows how consistent you have been with your new program and leadership... !!

There are a lot of us dog owners out there who breath a huge sigh of relief and thank god for steve otherwise things would have been much different.

Thanks guys :)

Yep just 3 short weeks (well, a little over 4 now and going strong!). But a lot of it was already in place after the first 3 DAYS, and then we just built on that.

Ruthless my e collars gathered dust for a while too :o but now they're just gathering scratches and dirt from being very well worn!!!

Here's some photographic evidence that my 3 JRT's can all be together. I look at these all the time and just grin

Hi Meriment, well we might as well share the stories while we are at it

I too used K9 while he was over a few weeks ago as my 18 month old Rotty has a massive positive value for other dogs (no aggression, just wants to hang out with dogs and play) she was an absolute nightmare for the wife to walk (lunging to see the other dogs) plus we could not let her off the lead as she would just take off and her recall was terrible under distraction.

Abby my gsd is exactly like that too................:) , problem is she is pretty close to having a higher value for playing with other dogs than her food in obedience training.....does not have enough prey drive to utilise in training, works best for food....but still would rather hang out with the other dogs  She has a prong on her but maybe I might consider an e-collar....

Frankie the Rotty had almost zero prey drive also, motivated for food but not under distraction. It is just not possible to describe how good the E collar is, I am constantly being told what an obedient dog I have off lead, whereas 3 weeks ago she was a bloody menace

Off lead and with other dogs, the only way to get her, was to catch her and put her on the lead, not a desirable situation and one that lent itself to her only being offlead where I knew there was no distraction so I didn't have to worry about her taking off - now its me calling my dog away from other people who have the same problem we used to have :o

Its actually at the stage already where I have can tell her walking past another dog to "forget about it" without actually having to stim her and she will keep coming with me off lead :(

Oh did I mention how good her recall is ;)

No?! I don't remember reading about that - tell us?!!!

So we're at the park the other day, Tinka and Norman were off lead. Norman has absolutely ZERO recall (his collar is on order!!) but it's a quiet evening, nobody around. I'm doing recall & SAAD with Tinka.

Next thing he lets out this ear splitting YAP and takes off 1000 mph away from us (he'd seen another dog). Tinka goes WOOF count me in... well she got all of 2 steps I reckon. Stim SIT! And she sat, and watched Norm bolt away. Recalled her straight to me.

Now that - was VERY very cool  ;)

K9: :( look at you lot... well done...

Yep so far so good... haven't needed this  yet

OK I've chopped my head off, (nobody needs to see that!) - but I like this one. Very relaxed... glass of wine and everything!! :o

Crusader,

Did you get the E-collar before you saw K9? Is it it easy to use?

Do you think it would it be worthwhile getting one to practice with until I manage to organise an appointment?

It would make life much easier in the interim if that was the case.

It would be nice to go back to the park sometime soon... "we" have some sociability issues not disimilar to yours but compounded by some unacceptable "tug-of-war" style rough-housing.

Deelee2 ..... I would strongly recommend that you have the tuition first and then apply the training method, rather than "practice" prior to tuition.

No I had it for sometime, but I also have allergy issues which has made training a bit difficult.

Is it easy to use? can you turnyour TV on with the remote?

Yes I think most people would be ok without any guidance from Steve with his long distance learning package, but having said that 1 hour with him is invaluable, personally if you are within driving distance I would pay the extra and have the time with him.

a couple of excerts from emails to Steve:

1) Took my wife down the park / river last night with Frankie, she could not believe the difference in her when I let Frankie off and there was a heap of people / dogs around, very impressed and still coming on nicely.

S: Excellent man, that makes me happy to hear!

2) Also when I give her the come command, it is not just a saunter over, it is run as fast as I can to get to you - is this normal? People look at us like we are nutsJ

S: yes! rofl, that's perfect! Some people report the dog crashing into their legs, so start training the sit on the run

3) Hey mate, we going awesome, recall while playing with other dogs is happening - I would have said this was previously impossible

S: Yeah I heard you thinking that, its my job to deliver the unbelievable from peoples dogs!

Convinced yet? you would not believe the positive value Frankie has on other dogs!
