charlie mouse
Hi'a One of my customers likes her 2 malt / shih clipped off in a 10 blade. I did the dogs today and before i started I asked her if she wanted them the same as last time (10 blade) and she said yes unless you can do them any shorter. I said i couldn't and continued to do them. I just wandered if any other groomers have customers who like there dogs done this short. tramissa
I do my own, but I do clip my pet girl in a #10 body. She prefers it and I quite like it. It's also good for swimming
becks
I do a couple with a 10 or reverse 7f, wouldn't go any shorter then that though.
Cavandra
The dogs needs coat, a 10 is already very short for a Maltese. Are they not worried about sunburn, skin cancer, and a lack of a barrier against contact allergies, biting insects etc?
Rysup
I only ever used a #7 blade in all my years as a groomer, thats plenty short enough if you ask me.
poodlefan
15# on Darcy's body .. by accident. By the time I noticed he had a big stripe down his back. I figured it was better to finish it than leave him that way. Lily is white and I'd never do shorter than 5# on her.. her coat is too thin and she'd get more sun damage than she already has. Alibi
I have a friend who clipped her cat all over with a #40 blade , it was an inside cat and shedding all over the place so she decided to do it really short.
Doggrooma
OMG a 40# is a SURGICAL Blade, and on a cat!! Im suprised she didnt tear it to shreads. A cats skin is like tissue paper. But yes I do a few that like a 10# on their fluffies. They look bloody awful though. Mind you they are once a yearers so you can immagine the state of them when I get them Edited December 5, 2007 by Doggrooma
frufru
15 on a long haired dachi with a very thick coat and it didn't look too short at all (did a test patch first though as I was hesitant). BC
If someone asks me to go as short as I can I usually do a 7F# unless I have to use a 10# due to severe matting.
JulesP
A reverse 7 and that was when pushed.
Silverblue
I do a 10 on a couple of grossly overweight Cav's, & any dog that is badly matted, otherwise I always use a 7. I clipped a maltese the other day & it came off as 1 big fleece, I have kept it to show people what will happen if they don't groom their dogs, i felt so sorry for the poor little dog it came off, stupid people. wardown
I once used a 30 blade on a seven year old cocker who had never been clipped before. It was the only size I could get between the knots and the dog.**He seemed reslly pleased with it he must have felt better
Poodle wrangler
(I'm not a groomer, but do 2 poodles at home).. Shorter than a #10 on a MaltXShih? I use a #15 to shave the apricot poodle's face, but you wouldn't want it that short on the body of a light-coloured dog. I did the MIL's MaltXShih with a #5 on the legs and that was too short: looked like a mutant chicken .
Silverblue
Bloody hell Wardown, I bet the Cocker was very grateful to get rid of 7 years of matted coat.
GoldiesRgr8Poodles2
Our short blade last year was a #5 this year its #7f and #10's left right a centre. Its the dogs that are matted that people want left long. I do some cockers and shnauzer breed clips with #15. Looks sleak and smooth. Did a #15 on a dog that usually has a #10 in summer. Black and white. They say hes not as hot and they can sese ticks on him when they go bush and has the best skin no allergies. Its really up to the owner. Ill do almost anything as long as I dont have to hurt them to do it.
witheverythingiam
We do the vet's MIL's cat each year before summer with a #40 blade, but only with the grain. We leave his head, socks & tail tip. He kinda looks like a lion afterwards, and his fur feels like velvet. -WithEverythingIAm
Poodle Mum
Some people like value for their money & they think if you clip the coat off shorter, visits to the groomer will be less frequent!! I only use a #10 if matted on the body. 7F or 5F looks much better ;)
