Miranda
Old dogs sometimes become intolerant of other dogs and just want to be left alone, obviously she no longer wants to play with the male and the growling is a warning which he is obviously ignoring, hence the fighting. The hormone treatment may have something to do with your girl's altered behaviour, perhaps your vet may be able to help you in this regard. Her Majesty Dogmad
Hormone treatment can make them more aggressive, if it is Stilboestrel. There is also Propalin medication which doesn't cause the aggressive behaviour. The other thing it could be is dementia, one of my females became snappy with other dogs and people about 2 years ago, she is 16 now but 12 isn't too young to get it.
