First Time Puppy Owner
Ok I have just spoken to the vet as (Golden Retriever) Benson's inner hind legs are getting worse from insect bites and him licking at them constantly. I have been applying permoxin but I think he has an irrations from the bites that have gotten through - def not fleas - either mozzies or sandflies. So they said clean with diluted Betadine and then apply Aloveen conditioner and leave it on try to soothe the itching. Has anyone tried this before??? Thank you for your help in advance! Golden Rules
Hey Suz I have had this problem before - have used a couple of things - Aloe Vera gel works brilliantly in settling all irritations, no matter what they are. They other thing I have used is Malcolm Harker's PetSooth Lotion - www.malcomharker.co.nz - lovely stuff I'll let you know if I think of anything else along the way........ t-time
Gawd - another plug for Advantix today Since starting to use it a couple of years ago, my dogs do not get fleas, they do not get ticks, they do not get bothered by flies, midgies, mozzies or anything Brilliant stuff! Another soothing treatment is Swedish Bitters available from your health food stores. I just apply it neat to the affected areas and no more scratching! And it will cost you less or the same as Aloveen (around $28 for a big bottle which will last you absolutely ages ) Aloe Vera is also another good one
bonny_beagle
SOOV antiseptic cream has 3% lignocaine, which should numb the area for him.
