Fear Agression Confusion !

Recommended Posts

Thanks Husky87!

Oh, btw I checked out your blog - and reminisced over all the old ABC shows !! I loved Ghost Rider - and Degrassi High - I actually bought Degrassi Jnr High on dvd !! :-)

Anyway.... I'm just speaking with Val on email at the moment. She thinks that perhaps our pack structure is still out of order. Perhaps Zorro doesn't have Fear Agression - maybe he is just unsure about children and needs to get used to them first ?

I think that you need to thank Val for her advice - given she hasn't seen teh dog or the kids or you, I personally think it is pretty pointless but that is my opinion.

Get Jane out and I think you will feel far more confident about how to handle Zorro after having him assessed by such a well-regarded, experienced and professional person! She will work out a program that you can implement and modify as you go along should that prove necessary!

Go for Jane!!

Have you used Jane before? She must be brilliant with all these referrals. I just want to make the right decision - whether Jane or Pawman, I can't decide !! errr !!! It was the pawman though who said that Zorro might see the food scraps/sticks etc as gifts, not attacks. But again, without seeing us, its hard to say over the net/phone. I have emailed Jane & just waiting for a response.

Val knows that she hasn't seen us yet & needs to see us first of course before giving her full opinion, as she is only going on the report from Ian.

I don't think a dog that still needs to get used to kids would be aggressive around them. JMHO.

I have not had anything to do with the Paw man but I know some people who have used him and weren't happy.

ETA: LOL about ABC Kids I loved those shows

Its funny how its only some kids. I really can't work it out - and do obviously need help. I think we need a trainer who can look at Zorro in differnet situations - not just with the kids next door. Of course he's going to be edgy around them. As I said, its not all kids.

C&Z, I really can't offer you anything more than to go and see Jane

The question I have to ask here. IS WHAT EXACTLY WAS THE PROGRAM THAT WAS IMPLEMENTED??

I am not going 100% either way, but what is screaming to me, is information is being left out. I do not believe a program for $200 would only consist of getting the children next door to throw treats at Zorro.

Did Ian instruct you on

Did he assess you and the dog with the kids there with Zorro in your back yard, and what happens outside your yard?

The situational requirements needed for when/how the "kids threw treats at Zorro?"

Did the program deal with just the kids next door in your back yard, or also involving them in other neutral territory

Did you make sure you understood the program before "Ian" left your place after the assessment?

Did he make any other recommendations?

Were you happy then and there with "Ian's" assessment, and if not, did you seek a second opinion from the owner earlier? or contact them straight away?

How many other people's opinions have you been listening to and trying while trying the program given to you? Have you chosen to only do certain parts of the program and not others?

I may sound harsh, but after reading your posts through a number of threads it seems that you have been listening to everyone's idea on how to treat the issue rather than seek professional help who have the ability to assess your dog in person. None of us as mentioned by someone else, knows your capabilities and a dog owner/trainer, the dog's temperaments and the situational influences. So no one on the net can give you positive and decisive advice on what to do. Bevavioural issues need to be observed and assessed on a case by case method. The interactions need to be observed between you and the dog, your partner and the dog and how the dog reactions to those around him.

It is commonly said amongst many a trainer, even down to the basic obedience levels, is new people try to take onboard too many methods at once, and fail, as each method has its time and place. The time and place may not suit your situation this time, but may suit another in another time and place.

K9: problem you face is that going the wrong way with a dog like this can render them unable to rehabilitated in the future... You just dont get endless shots at this.

I would be going with Jane or Grant personally...

:thumbsup::laugh: Jane Harper!!!!!! :D ;)
