Grooming Frames

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi it's me again! I seem to have so many questions these days so my apologies.

I have been talking to a retired groomer here and she recommended I get a grooming frame for the table I have bought. She said almost all of her little dogs use to sit or lay down on the table and it made things so much easier with the frame and body noose. Once again I have done a search of the posts here but can't find too much about frames. I read the awful article about the dog which jumped off a table with one attached, or course I will not leave any dog unsupervised on the table but I am wondering if it is worth the risk, it seems this dog wasn't unattended just chose to take a flying leap.

Anyway as always I am looking for your guidance and would appreciate the groomers perspective.

Thanks as always

Blue Fox

I dont have one at the moment but have used one. I think they're very handy with a body strap, for those dogs that just have to lie down or are bloody overweight and cannot stand for long periods themselves. They can also stop the temptation of wanting to jump down as the dog feel restricted, but if you think they're gunna jump push the table up against the wall so the dog is limited as to where it can jump.

You will always hear horror stories, but if you can read a dogs body language, there are many signs a dog will display prior to jumping.

I prefer not to have the dog tethered while grooming, and when I need to walk away from the table I will put the dog on the floor, but some dogs just need to be held up.

You can get grooming arms or frames.

I prefer the grooming frames so I can have a head noose at one end and a body noose at the other.

You have greater control over the dog and can therefore get the job done quicker and easier.

Frames have a vertical bar attached to both sides of the table with a horizontal bar joining them and are adjustable in 2 directions.

Arms can have the noose and body lead attached to the end of the arm but frames are easier on the dog and give me more access to groom.

If dogs are attached by the neck and the body it is much more difficult if not impossible for them to jump off and hurt themselves but then dogs should not be left unattended attached to a grooming arm. That is just asking for trouble.

Thanks very much for that. I think I will get one and give it a go, if I don't like it I can just take it off. I appreciate everyone's comments, I can then make an informed decision but I suppose like everything it will be a matter of using things and seeing what works for me.

I have a grooming arm for mine, it was worth the extra $50!! I also got a body strap that holds the dog up (mine hate the table and like to lye down and sulk  so it comes in very handy.

My hydraulic table turned up today and it has a grooming arm with it. I think I will still buy the frame and give it a go.

The table is great - although may be a little unstable for the bigger dogs even though it is the largest they sell, and doesn't lower down to 60cm like it said on ebay - only to 75cm which is still quite high to be lifting a big dog on to!

I think we will cut the legs of a normal table for the big dogs and just use this one for the SWF's.

My cat had a trial run on it today and she seemed to like it LOL!

Why don't you just make a step for the big dogs to walk onto the hydraulic table?

Isn't the idea of the hydraulic tables for big dogs who are too heavy to lift to a regular table? Put them on it then raise them?

Using that table for SWF defeats the purpose and you just wasted all the money you just spent getting the table!

What make is the table and who supplied it? There are a number of sellers on eBay who make all sorts of claims and the products fail to meet the specifications. Many products are made in China and the standards and specifications are generally overrated.

Thanks for reminding me SilverHaze about the money I have just wasted! As I said in my last post it doesn't lower to 60cm like it said on e-bay, and yes that was the whole point of getting one - doesn't change the fact that it won't work as the table is not stable enough to hold one anyway.

It will be fine for the smaller types eg. cavs and probably standard poodles who don't have the weight of the GSD's. So no I don't think it was a waste of money - but I suppose you get what you pay for and at least I can still use it.

Hi poodle3081 - it is an Australian company, but when the product turned up it says made in China! Coltrandi are the distributors here in Australia. As long as you don't want to put something as big as a GSD on it it would be fine. It was also about 1/4 the price of most hydraulic tables I have seen at only $425 so I am not complaining. Could probably send it back back the cost of freight I have already paid plus to send it back and I still would need a table so I am happy enough to just cut down a second table for the big dogs. :D

When buying of eBay you need to check the country a manufacture. Many "bargains" are made in China and not until they arrive or there is a fault that you find out where they are made. The company you mention also sells dryers from China and the specifications do not meet engineering standards. I am wary of products made in China as there is no guarantee that part will be available into the future.

If you speak to Challenge Dog Supplies I saw a 3 way arm they sell and is great for the safety aspect of dog grooming as it is difficult for the dog to turn its head around and bite, it was demonstrated at an expo recently. Over the weekend a lady from NSW had a call to say one of her staff had received serious bites to her face from a dog they have been grooming for years and had always been well behaved so if I was grooming I would be looking carefully at products like this.

Thanks for that helen - I will have a look. It is great to get real feedback on products, I think DOL has saved me from making too many costly mistakes over the past few weeks. :(
