arby
Ok Xena is 10weeks old now. We have a month til her first show. She walks great beside us and heels with one problem...She cant stand the leash. SHe walks great without the leash. As soon as its on its all out puppy breaks...all 4 paws down....sits on her bum and will have none of it. Any tips on getting her used to it??? She does have a damn good food drive so that can help but I need tips on how to get her started. We cant do any puppy classes/show classes for another 3 weeks since her last vaccination is at 13 weeks.
helen
You could try a couple of more times, use some nice food to lure her without pulling on the lead at all If this fails get a normal flat collar and lead and let her drag it around the house (under supervision) so she is more used to wearing the collar and lead, then start picking the lead up while she is walking Just remember, make it fun This exercise should help your dog accept being handled by the judge in the show ring - http://azcentral.pets911.com/programs/nati...e.php?num=11028 Edited November 1, 2007 by helen

sas
We just attached a light lead to Dante and lead him drag it around for a couple of days (when we were home). Typically puppies don't like leads because of the tention. By letting them drag it around they'll stand on it and feel tention in a non-scary way.
