Jonty Herding

Thought I would put up a short video of Jonty herding, this is his second HT - he didn't pass, but he worked quite well & I thought I would post it here as I know there are a lot of people who have never seen a sheltie herd & aren't sure what they are like when they are working.

Sorry it's a little bit dark at the beginning, not sure why as the original isn't dark, only now it's been put on Youtube :) . And for anyone who's wondering that's not me handling him, I got someone else to do it for this run (I was still recovering from Saturday's episode :) ).

He was having so much fun :) I had tears in my eyes seeing him enjoy himself so much.

I wish this had been around when I had my Sheltie. Maybe the next one.

Well done Jonty you lucky little pup :)

STOP?!?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? NO WAY, THIS IS WAY TOO MUCH FUN!!!!! :laugh:

Hiya Levi :laugh: , I had to check if it was the Levi & I see it is :) , nice to see you again! You wouldn't have recognised her but you know the person who was handling him in the video, she used to train & trial with us at LABDOC :D .

I wish we had had stuff like herding etc back then too, Im sure lots of dogs would have enjoyed it :) .

Will get Eddie to do it tonight Tracey, not sure why it came out dark, the original is fine :) .

ETA - I had a lightbulb moment about his biting the other night, I will chat to you about it when I see you next. Won't be down tonight, will see you next week.

Congratulations! It's really nice to see some shelties around competing in herding. My boy is the only one (that I know of) in Tas doing any...he'd probably be doing a lot better if his handler (me!) knew what she was doing :) He got his HT a few months ago - not sure how much further we'll go (just started to get into tracking with him) but it's all fun.

Keep up the good work! Isn't it great to see them doing what they were bred for...

Koolietas, I know what you mean, this handler lets the dogs down all the time too. But as long as they are having a good time it's all good :) .

Tracey - :laugh::) .

Awww look at lil Jont-star all grown & and chasing sheepies! LOL. What was the aim of when he was trying to do for all those non-herders like myself?

-WithEverythingIAm

For HT he basically has to move the sheep from one end of the yard to the other & back again - you can do it along the fence (as he did) or you can do a figure of 8 around the cones. Doesnt matter as long as you change direction at the end & show that he can move them both ways. He has to do a controlled pause at the beginning (so he has to be able to stay until you send him, it doesnt have to be long), a stop & be called off the sheep (a recall) at the end of the run.

He did all the required elements, I was very proud of him :rofl: .
