ILuvAmstaffs
My amstaff boy hates having his nails clipped. He will buck around so you can't hold him & I am no longer able to do them... he doesn't mind having his paws touched, he just gets suss when he sees soemthing in your hand. What I am wondering is, should I take him to the vet to have them done or try a groomer first?
Nevafollo
can they wait til the specialty?LOL a vet will usually only charge $10 and SHOULD in theory know what hes doing but then a groomer would be the same!!!

I've known Vets to charge up to $20 just for a nail clip. Well they aren't getting a consult fee, so I guess that makes up for it. But then they also give complimentary nail clips for surgery cases too. -WithEverythingIAm

Her Majesty Dogmad
I take a couple of mine to the vet as they won't let me do it and at the vets they have nurses to hang on to them! Well worth $20 in my opinion! Same for the anal glands - they've offered to show me how but I'm happy to pay ....

poodlemum
Not sure what other groomers do, but at my shop we don't charge for nail clipping - I have seen my partner (Sharon, the groomer) clip my dogs' nailsl - they don't object at all - if I tried to do it , it would be mayhem!! Poodle wrangler
YouTube vid of a woman dremelling her Dogo Argentino's .I'm not sure she's doing it quite right, though, as the dogs have a few squeals. I don't have it running that fast. Are the nails really long? If so, maybe the vet can clip and cauterize the quick under sedation. Don't know how others go, but I have to do my dog's nails about every 10 days, just to keep up with growth, let alone get the quick to recede. They don't often walk on roads, mostly grass, sand, dirt tracks.
