Oh Boy I knew this time was coming :)

my Old biddy is getting a bit sore in the Joints ,

she's finding it a tad hard to get up from laying down.

Has anyone used "Techny Flex " and or "Sashas Blend"

if so what do you think of it

and what would you advise me to give her ?

I have had her on fish oil caps for ages its part of her BARF Diet.

I think I have tried most things.......

I find that when giving the dogs something for their joints that they get to a point where they don't appear to benefit from the product any more. I certainly found this from Sacha's Blend - so i went to Joint Guard. I am now using Flexcose which you get from the US - but you will find that most of the products have the same sort of things in them. You dog may also benefit from Cartrophen - but you will need to speak to your vet about this one.

Will tell you to check your fish oil tablets that the company tests for mercury and arsenic.

I've used Sasha's Blend before on our old boy Benny. He was a GSD x something huge (67kgs). Used Sasha's for about 2 - 3 years and I wasn't sure if it was making such a radical difference, I guess because he improved gradually over time. Then we went to visit my family in Armidale for 10 days over Christmas and forgot to pack the Sasha's Blend. We noticed a marked difference - poor boy couldn't jump into the car for the trip home (which hadn't been a problem when we left Sydney). After a week or two at home back on Sasha's he was much better.

However, we got to the point when he was 10 that he needed a course of cartrophin(sp) injections, which were like fountain of youth serum for him....he even tried to climb a gum tree to chase a possum :) silly old boy.

I've seen the same thing with humans taking joint supplements and/or pain relief for their arthritis. Lots of them think it's no longer helping, then get the shock of their lives when they have to stop the tablets before surgery.

Not so much it's "not working", but the condition itself worsens.

If you try Joint Guard, see: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=117031

I tried sashas on my boy with ED. It didn't seem to help at all... neither did the cartrophen shots... joint guard seemed to help a lot, but then I started on flexicose & I can't believe how much of a difference it's made.

Poodle wrangler, I think your right. I ran out of flexicose & during the 2 weeks Diesel was off it, he started limping very badly... then 2 weeks after ebing back on it he went back to barely having a limp. It could be coincidental but I'm going to make sure I always have a spare bottle in the cupboard now so that I never run out again!

Thank You for your replies..

I will have to do some reading up .. seems there are a few to choose from.

But looks like it comes down to the 3 you guys have mentioned .

Ptolomy....as for the fish caps I think they should be safe ( well hope so ) as I am taking the same..

either Natures Own or Natures Way .

Griff - just because you are taking the fish oil doesn't mean that it doesn't have nasties in it. The ones I was giving to my dog you buy from a pharmacy and are for humans too. I also found out that when I emailed the companies and asked if they tested for mercury or arsenic some said yes but wouldn't supply any data and others just ignored my email.

Good luck!

Do you give these in conjunction with the shots from the vet??

I give my Sage the course of 4 shots over a month, and this lasts her a year.

Changing her diet to include sardines etc has helped alot too. I was thinking about a heated mat for her during colder weather, but worry that the younger dogs might rip it apart..

Has anyone got one and if so.how sturdy is it?

I have tried Sasha's Blend and my dog didnt respond at all to it.

We have the dog on Joint Guard now and the dog is like a new dog.

PLUS it doesnt smell at all, Sasha's Blend stinks!!

My dog had a course of Cartrophen and was put onto the Joint Guard shortly after and he is mobile, active and PLAYFUL, he never was before, it was looking grim for him, but now he is improved!!

From what my vet told me, you need an equal amount of Glucosamine to Chondroitin for it to be effective. Which is why he is recommending Joint Guard.

Looking at the ingredients of my tub and the list of ingredients on the Flexicose, they pretty much the same ingredients, but Joint Guard has more Chondroitin, which is pretty important.
