Jennifer
Just wondering any agility training clubs that would allow my piityX that has fear agression. He is in training and comming on leaps and bounds for his problems. I am now walking him with strange dogs without any dramas. I would be willing to muzzle him and wear a bright collar if neccesary. It would be sad to deny him as he is very athletic. He is extremely smart and picks up new tricks in seconds, he knows all the usual; speak, spin, pulling your sock off, trotting, over, under, say you prayers, turning on and off lights, opening and closing doors, touch, lets me know when phone rings even though i can hear it ha! Puts a tug ring over a stck in the garden e.c.t lately I made some jumps and weaves and I was shocked at how easy he took to it. I would love to go with him to some agility training.I'm hoping there are clubs near me, im living in sydney
rastus_froggy
Probably best to give some of your local clubs a call and have a chat with the person in charge, you can find them listed in the dog sport section
poodlefan
If he had issues being in close proximity to other dogs, he'd not pass our intake test. Why a dog might react to others is of less interest to me than what kind of reaction there might be as it will be the instructor who has to control the class and wade in to break up any incidents. I would also not allow a dog to undertake training muzzled. Even the best muzzles restrict a dogs ability to pant. That said, agility training should not be a free for all and we don't allow dogs that whose owners can't exercise effective offlead control to participate. In the early classes, only one dog is offlead at any time. I'd keep working on his issues and talk to your local clubs. The degree of his reaction to other dogs and what he does when he becomes aggressive will probably dictate how it goes. If you are not already a member of a local dog club, it might be wise and let people get to know you and your dog in less arousing environment so that they can see what he's like. Kowai
I'd suggest just talking to some local clubs and see what they reccomend You'll probably find in the beginners class they don't allow dogs off leash really anyway, so it may give your dog a chance to get used to other dogs in that environment. t(AD)pole
Maybe you could try private agility classes?
