Raw Bones And Raw Foods For My Pug?

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I am quite interested in what would be best for me to be feeding Louie.

He is a twelve week pug and this is what he currently gets:

Breakfast: Three Tbsp of soaked eagle pack, 2 tbsp Science Diet Puppy wet food and 1 tsp natural yoghurt

Lunch: As above

Dinner Three Tbsp soacked eagle pack, 35g premium mince, 1 tbsp SD puppy wet, 1 tsp natural yoghurt

Today I gave him a little bit of carrot and he seems to like it - looking for opinions on what I could add to his diet - I do not really have the time to do full BARF but could easily add or substitue items...

A tiny piece of tinned sardine, some grated zucchini and carrot, cooked egg yolk (add the white when he's older), grated cheese, cottage cheese, brown rice, rolled oats, brisket bones, grated apple and pear, tinned fruit (pears, peaches etc), chicken liver.

Just add little bits at a time and see how he goes with them. If he doesn't like it, don't give it to him again but a dog with a varied diet is easy to take places and it's also good for them.

Grains are actually not great for canines so I would skip the oats and rice. They are ok though in small quantities but not neccessary.

I don't feed my Pugs necks or bones as they pose a great choking risk to them, given that most Pugs inhale food rather then chewing it. I got tired of rescuing bones from their throats and so I stopped this. As an alternative to bones I have always encouraged them to chew on nylabones for teeth cleaning and this they do for hours.

I feed my Pugs a raw diet consisting of mince (beef, lamb and chicken), eggs, assorted veges, plain low fat yoghurt, pet milk, sardines and kibble.

Sorry, I didn't mean to put you off bones entirely. He may be ok with them. I have just found the majority of Pugs aren't though.

One of my foster carers actually feeds her wings frozen to the Pugs and she swears by this that it stops them swallowing them whole... but I would think it would be awful for them in Winter?? Summer would be great for this though.

My Pug is 100% Raw fed, and has been since I got her at 5 months.

I don't feed wings to any of my dogs, but the majority RMB's in my girl's diet are Frames(a couple of ripped up, chunks (otherwise she's be the side of a house in size!) and necks.

She handles them without issue.
