Guest
I have asked this question before, but it was a while ago, so was wondering if anyone has anything new to impart. I have a JRT who suffers from Hot Spots. I now do not take him to the vet when they appear as it is a waist of time. They only give him prednisone tablets and Neotopic H cream, which may as well be moisturiser. I find that as soon as they appear, he has a cool bath and I wash him with Epi-Soothe which I leave on for 3 minutes to soak in the skin before rinsing it of. I also catch the hot spots before the skin has a chance to break and cut the fur right back so the area is exposed. I dry him thoroughly and the smother the offending area with 100% Aloe Vera Gel, then cover the area with a breathable bandage or some other cover just so he can't lick the affected area and within a week they are usually gone. If any one has any other remedies that they feel works well, please let my know. Zoom
poodlemum
I have found Aloe Vera Spray useful - if you can't find that Aloe Vera Gel or Lavender Oil could help

sandgrubber
ANYTHING that dries it out and kills the bacteria. I use a general antiseptic in a spray bottle. The important part is cutting the hair around the spot and making sure it doesn't get yucky.

Russkie30
Alpha Keri Oil, I've used this for 20 years. It lifts the scab off the skins and you don't need to cut the hair. Also I found years and years ago when my goldies use to get them a lot I would make up a bucket of water with it in and rinse them after I had bathed them. My friend puts the alpha keri oil in her hydrobath and finishes them off with that. You just get it from the chemist.

She has tried changing diet, powders, creams and has taken her to the vets numbers of times and nothing ever works!!!!! Will have to tell her to try some of the things mentioned in this tread.
