Dog Washing, Any Recommendations?

Any recommendations for who does dog washing in this area (Tea Tree Gully) and if I should go somewhere, or get a mobile dog washer to come out? Also, how much is it likely to cost?

OH has grown wheat in the bit of the backyard where I would normally wash Scrimp... and I can't get Scrimp to go in the bath, but he needs a wash and his winter coat needs help coming out (in spite of all of my brushing).

If both your dogs are short coats then Id say a mobile is fine just keep an eye on them at first make sure they are doing it nicely.... If your dog has longer fur and will require real brushing go for a mobile who was at a salon or a salon. I only know one mocile person I would recomend but she is south... Hope Ive helped and not confused.. At my saoln in the east for small to medium dogs I change between $25 and $40 depending on coat.

Thanks goldiesRgreat, you were definately helpful.

Scrimp has medium hair but his winter coat is still coming out, and although I've brushed him lots, but I thought maybe a proper dog wash might help get it out...? Not sure on this.

It had never occured to me that mobile dog washers might not be nice or gentle! I've never used any, I used to work with a girl who absolutely loved dogs and wanted to start her own mobile dog washing, so assumed that all operators were the same... Probably not a correct assumption.

I'd suggest you go for a hydrobath and "blowdry".

A force dryer should help get rid of that dead coat, but I'm not sure if mobile groomers have them- ask if they have a force dryer!

Keep up the brushing, too. The right brush can help, too. What breed/ cross is Scrimp and what are you using atm?

I will try and find out the guy my old housemate used (up at surrey downs). He was awesome and even the grumpy akita looked forward to seeing him. We are going to use him ourselves soon, tho for now, willow likes us to do it in the trough, while she still fits in it :)

The other thing I was going to say is that if you go with a salon make sure you can pick up within a reasonable time... There is no need for your dog to be there at 9am and only picked up at 5 unless you want them to stay for the day... Always ask to see where and who will be grooming... If the salon owner/manager will not let you see and give you an excuse then dont leave your dog there. If they dont show you without an appointment there is a chance they are doing something they dont want you to see.

I have just opened a dog grooming salon in Tea Tree Gully and at our salon we have all the equipment needed to remove the excess hair. A mobile service is also recommeded if they use a force dryer and completely dry the coat. There are a few around our area now which offer this service. If you decide to wash Scrimp at home, use a chamois to remove excess water along with towels, this will reduce the towel washing! Good luck
