Cazz Posted October 13, 2007 Share Posted October 13, 2007 He's driving me insane! I bought him a great big bag of puppy food, but he goes after the cat food. I've tried moving the cat food away and putting the puppy food there, he won't eat, he goes looking for the cat bowl. I've mixed cat food with puppy food, he specifically eats only the cat bikkies. The Spotted Devil Posted October 13, 2007 Share Posted October 13, 2007 (edited) Cats are such delightfully fussy creatures as a rule that the manufacturers of cat food go to great length to make the food highly palatable. Plus cat food is high in protein so dogs just LOVE it Which is, of course, one reason why cats should not be regularly fed dog food. But....back to the cats vs dogs food issue. I have two cats and they eat in the kitchen. Pup is not allowed in the kitchen but that doesn't stop him trying! My cats, like my pup, have been trained to eat the food in front of them or it gets picked up and put away - to my way of thinking it is a better way to control who eats what (one kit is a real guts!) and you also know who is eating and thus, who might be a bit off colour. So....cats get breakfast, dinner and a small supper (they are in mint condition) behind closed doors in the kitchen - they gobble it up, dishes are picked up and washed. As for picking up the food when they walk away, 2 of the cats are ex strays and the other's a purebred Turkish Van from the RSPCA. They play with the dog and graze with the dog. Dogsfevr Posted October 13, 2007 Share Posted October 13, 2007 Commensense will tell you feed the cats up high & the dog gets its food & no options.Its doing it because it can & aslong as it can he will decide what food hes eating . The cat food isnt off any benefit to a growing pup. We will occasionally mix tin cat when girls are in season but cat food is for cats dog food is for dogs & if you dont start being the food boss the problem will get worse Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
