Vip Dog Food

We have used it, both my Border Terriers had the puppy roll or gourmet chicken as baby pups (my 19 week old would still have it if Coles didn't stop stocking it!) as an addition to their kibble and bones. Never had a problem with it :D

Makes for good treats too, easy to cut up and doesn't crumble- but can be slimey.

Never used it but had a quick look at the ingredients here - personally I'm not keen on what I see but I am a BARF feeder and have been for 7 years.

If you want to feed a commercial diet why don't you try a higher quality food which can be purchased at the vet or pet supply store rather than the supermarket variety.

Or look into the BARF patties here

I suppose one way of testing the VIP rolls would to be to warm up a slice in a fry pan or microwave and see if it turns mostly to water ..... if it does - then it probably wouldn't be that good. Just my personal opinion but I am biaised :D

The reason I ask is I normally feed Minx raw beef minced with vegies in it, but our great dog food man has sold up  I've been put onto a lady that makes her own dog food and she has minced beef, minced chicken carcess, vegies, fruit, and omega oils in it, but I was thinking about trying to make my own to save money....and hubby sometimes buys the VIP rolls as MInx can be VERY fussy at times, so thats the reason I asked as she eats the roll food :) but can anyone give any ideas on making your own food???

There's a guy in Melbourne making up BARF. He uses only fresh vegetables and minced beef with no supplements because he said everyone has their own idea of which supplements they wish to use. His prices are very reasonable and he does free home delivery. Send me a pm if you want his phone number. He does a few different varieties of food.

Edited to add: EcoPet is the only dog food roll I would use as it's preservative free and contains no nasties. The only supermaret I've seen it in is IGA.

I make my own dog food, although I don't have a set recipe. The base is raw mince (beef, lamb, chicken, roo or whatever is on special and usually a combo of 2 or 3), porridge oats, raw vegetable mush and cooked eggs. Additions are yoghurt, grated cheese, cottage cheese, grated fruit, tinned mackerel, tinned asparagus, chicken livers, fish oil.

I just buy a selection of ingredients and mix them together....the ratio would be about 4kgs of raw meat to 1kg of extras. Dogs also get raw meaty bones, chicken necks and pieces, Eagle Pack holistic kibble and tinned sardines.

Like Cavnrott, the only dog roll I would use is Ecopet.....my dogs like it and it's good to have one or two in the freezer for those times I run out of other stuff.

Making your own is probably not cheaper than buying commercially made pet food, but at least you know what's in it and can control what your dog eats.

I use it, always have and always will..

My prime example is my big boy BC Scooby who has eaten it ever since he was 8 weeks old in conjunction with his dry food and bones and everyone who meets him comments that he has the most magnificently soft and shiny coat etc. I feed it to all my dogs and my foster dogs too & those that I have had who've come through terribly underweight with dull coats etc look so much better in no time at all. Our Rescue vet actually asked me what I feed them because he noticed such a quick improvement. Even the fussy eaters enjoy it!!

When my girl was pregnant she ate the VIP and had 9 very healthy weight puppies and she herself sustained a healthy weight all the way through. Its easy to mash for pups, it doesn't smell in the fridge and it even has a herb in it that helps reduce stool odour.

With 3 kids, 6 dogs, 3 cats, 3 birds & the OH I don't have time to prepare my own dog food but even if I did I probably wouldn't bother because I like the results it has with my dogs and recommend it totally!! :)

we fed our dogs that (well two of them) and both got sick. i heard it has high salt content. so they were both drinking heaps. one is still not right. i don't know what's in it, but it took ages for us and the vet to come up with what was wrong, it was kind of like parvo symptoms! we thought we are best to feed the dogs natural food like mince and vegies not commercial dog food. everytime we do the dogs get sick.....maybe its because ours aren't use to the commercial stuff anymore i'd say, we've been feeding natural. or BARF.

not having a dig at anyone at all who uses it, but am i the only one who cringes when, in the ad, katrina squishes it between her fingers to show us how 'tender' and 'full of flavour' it is?

i wouldn't feed that crap to my dogs, no way. i think the less processed a food is the better a dog will do on it. disregarding specialist dry foods (eagle pack etc). same for humans.

I agree monosylabik and Im also not having a go at any product or people too!! the less chemicals as i said in my other flea treatment post the better and the same goes for the commercial food. we beleive in all natural stuff as well.

Only dog roll I would recommend and use happily is Scotty's Premium dog rolls. They do have a website. Not sure if it is available all over though. Like Ecopet (have not tried this one) it has only natural ingredients with no nasties either!.
