Which Food?

Hi all :rolleyes:

Just wondered if you could point me in the direction of a good quality food for my Boxers.

1 can eat most things but the other ...well his paws are a mess at the moment.

Hes constantly chewing them

Im sick of trying stuff from the supermarket as nothing seems to work so fancied changing to premium food.

Might seem a dumb question but weve not long lived here and Im not used to the brands here

I have no idea...chum's a waste of time, even for adult dogs, it made me retch.

Pick a food, read the label. I add a bit extra onto their guesstimations, I don't want to under feed my dog.

Most pet food companies over estimate the amount of their product they suggest you feed. This of course sells more of their product. The proof of this is seen in the number of overweight dogs we see.

My opinion of a poor quality food like Chum wouldn't be suitable to post on an open forum. The better quality foods are not found at the supermarket.

I prefer to avoid processed foods and feed a natural diet. The dogs love it, do really well on it... never had a skin/allergy issue, they have beautiful teeth, smell great, and have lovely shiny coats.

If you don't mind a little preparation, you will find it cheaper as well.

Adding a splash of natural apple cider vinegar every day is great as well, strengthens the immune system and kills off bugs.

edit to add, you should be avoiding carbohydrates if there are skin problems, this includes grains, cereals, rice, pasta, etc. and feed fatty acids such as tinned sardines in oil twice a week, or buy something like fish oil tabs or megaderm from the vet clinic.

Hi I dont profess to be an expert on this topic but my boy Caesar had skin problems when he was young and I fed him a diet of home made dog food, rice, pasat veges and raw chicken mince (from the butcher, pet quality $1 kg) and I use a Science Diet dry dog food from the vet or good pet shops.

hope this helps, my boy can know eat anything, but I usually stick to the home cooked wet food and a good quality dry food.

The corn and fillers in the cheap supermarket foods can be causing the irritation - mostly corn and cereal fillers can be the culprits -

Check out foods such as Nutro, Eagle Pack Holistic, Natural Balance - there's not as much variety here as there is in the UK or US unfortunately, due to quarantine regulations, but those 3 are very good -

It's possible that a change of diet might help, but he may need something else in the meantime?

Ive had him to the vets a number of times and he always ends up with tablets which help but I really need to tackle the cause.
