Poodle wrangler
Just wondering about this. Relatives said they "weren't in a paralysis tick area", but then they know nothing about dogs. Picton/ Thirlmere is SW of Campbelltown, NSW. About 1+ hour SW of Sydney. About 45km from the coast, I guess. Thanks.
2tollers
I'm no expert but I would think that is definitely a tick area.

PAX
I don't think it is, I have friends there and they have never mentioned it.
morgan
Definitely not. Gets far too cold in winter for the ticks to survive and continue breeding. Ask any vet in the area and they will tell you the same thing - the only cases they ever see are dogs that picked up ticks while on holidays on the coast. Poodle wrangler
Thanks, guys . I didn't want to just take their word for it because their dogs are so poorly cared for e.g. they didn't know puppies needed worming and wondered why it ate so much but was so skinny . morgan
I can see why you didn't take them at their word...
Cordelia
Don't bet on it not being a tick area. I have ALWAYS vouched for not being in an area where ticks are an issue but in the last 4mths, I have pulled over 20 off my cats (4 cats). I've never used prevention for it previously but I do now (and no longer an issue for them).... the dogs don't go into the bush around here so I've never found any on them but the cats go off in there so can't not treat them now. cavanova
I grew up in Camden and lived at Bargo for 2 years and Thirlmere for around 10yrs and I never saw a Tick. Now if we were talking about the Central Coast, Newcastle area were we now live. I would say Yes, there are Ticks.
