ish
Checa has been outside in the runs all day while I've been out, she came inside tonight and took up her usual position watching the cat. About half an hour ago I noticed her face looked funny and on closer inspection, it seems that shes been bitten through the fence by one of the other dogs The bottom cut is split, I'm not sure how far through - its very sore Shows how swollen the area is I've washed it with salty water and she's not too concerned as long as I'm not touching it - should I take her to the vet tonight or will she be ok til Monday? peigirl
I am a bit of a worry wort so for peace of mind I would go sooner rather than later, just in case antibiotics are in order. It looks very tender
Toohey
She'll need antibiotics. Have you got any clavulox you can start her on?
Dog_Horse_Girl
Keep irrigating with the salty water for now. You can book in on Monday if you're at all worried but the wound looks small and clean so it will likely heal of its own accord. JMO.
Toohey
the wound looks small and clean so it will likely heal of its own accord. JMO. If it's a bite wound, chances of infection are high, especially considering it is already swollen and painful.
KOE
her nose is just like Kims doesnt look like an antibiotic job unless there is a definate puncture wound. Isnt it amazing that they always tend to do thee things on a weekend.
ish
I did find some antibiotics that I've started her on - I'm 99% sure its a bite wound because of the shape (semi circle) and where it is on her chin. If you look at the last pic, you can kind of imagine where the cut is thats where the front teeth went in and its puffed up as if its been grabbed there. I'll wash it tomorrow and book her in for first thing Monday. She's eaten her dinner and seems happy enough. Thanks for the replies, its good to have other peoples opinions when you're a bit stressed and mightn't be seeing clearly!
blacklabrador
It may already be in the early stages of infection - hence the swelling. You don't really know when it actually happened and it may have been this morning. I don't think it's an emergency - see what she looks like in the morning.
