Staining Around Mouths

I've found playing around with their diet really helps to prevent staining. I've also suggested this to clients who have similar problems and it's worked for them too. I think once it's there it's pretty hard to get rid of until you can prevent it and let the old staining fade. I do know a couple of people who wipe their dogs face and eyes after each drink, feed etc.. to prevent staining but not really practical for most people.

ETA: I do find that Champion Tails whitening shampoo helps lessen stains somewhat.

Hi

Staining can be unsightly. When I owned/exhibited a white standard poodle I used Sard Wonder Soap to remove the staining, you have to make sure you rinse it out thoroughly after using. As a maitenance thing with my Bernese I sometimes used just plain old Soda Water, I find this also helps with Urine staining on white feet.

The biggest factor I have found is as suggested by others is diet. Some of the dry and canned foods contain too many additives and colours, or maybe you are feeding too much spagehti bolognese...

All the best,

Maxcine.

change to a more natural diet, add Apple cider vinegar daily (I add to moist food).

Hesapandabear, I actually found the staining on my girl only started once I started feeding nutro. If I take her off it, the stains start fading, once back on, stains come back. Going to be finishing this bag and then no more nutro.

Hi thankyou about the advice.... I have read the ingredients on the packaging tonight and all but Super Coat and Optimum have got food colouring in them... I have taken him of pedigree natural now and put him back onto the Optimum that his breeder was feeding him....

Thankyou again, I'm going to the royal on saturday so will have a look at getting me some stuff to mask over till it fades... I washed him in Plum white then Sard last week and it did cover it up well..
