ruthless
I know a trip to the vet is probably the answer, but in the meantime I'm just looking for peoples opinions... Chopper rarely does a normal pooh. He's either constipated or got diarrhoea most of the time. He had rotten farts on Supercoat, so we changed to Eukanuba for sensitive stomachs. He get's this with omega oil for breakfast and with fish or meat for dinner. Sometimes with an egg. Sometimes with yoghurt. He has bones, raw hide and dog biscuits occasionally. He had blocked anal glands about 7wks ago and they were cleaned out, but last night he was dragging his ass on the carpet again. My sudden concern was sparked by the fact that last night there were 3 very different poohs in his run when I got home. One jet black one that could possibly have been a bird pooh. One semi solid less dark one, but with some red, and one solid one with bits of blood. He's acting completely normally [if you can ever call him normal!] so I don't know if I need to be too worried... any thoughts?
Poodle wrangler
7 weeks is plenty of time to develop anal gland issues again. The vet can show you how to do it yourself. Just wear gloves, do it outside (or when he's having a bath) and stand clear! I'm guessing you've done all the regular worming etc. So, I'm not much help, sorry. carabelle
Add a sprinkle of psyllium husks to his meals every day, this reduces anal gland problems. I had a dog with a lot of anal gland problems until I did this, never had them again. I would also think about adding some carbs. Good luck. Gomez the Norfolk
When we tried giving Gomez some yogurt we found out he does not tolerate it very well, runny, runny poos - as soon as we took him off it, back to normal...
Tilly
Instead of yoghurt maybe try adding "Inner Health Plus" available from chemists/health food shops. I regularly give my boy a dose and I find it helps maintain a healthy gut. Edited: because I keep forgetting I don't have boys but have only one boy.... ;) Edited September 19, 2007 by Tilly
ruthless
He went to the vet this morning [cause I found a sore on his paw that he'd licked so much it got infected] and OH told him about the poohs and ass dragging too. The vet said to put him on kibble only for a week. He'd been in kennels for 4 wks while we were OS and he didn't have a chance to gradually let his stomach adjust to a different diet when we got him home. He also cleaned his glands and said to give him husks daily. He also found that he's broken his other canine. Brilliant. The original broken one is now completely cracked to the root and open for infection. Anyone know a cheap canine dentist???
