Miette
My approx 3yr old severely cross bred dog (staffy, kelpie, cattle dog and other unidentified breeds) was diagnosed with a level 1 heart murmur today during a rountene check up. She is desexed, 12.9 kg, small build and healthy. I rescued her from an animal refuge 2 years ago so I have no idea of her history. I was just hoping that someone could tell me a little bit more about the diagnosis & what I can do to help her in anyway.
Ozstar
If you type in heart murmur in a search engine it will bring up lots of information for you. Level 1 heart murmur is really nothing to be too conserned about. A dog with a level 1 can still lead a very normal life. Just keep an eye on her for shortness of breath and don't let her get over weight. Keeping her on the thinner side is better as it will not put extra stress on her heart. Poodle wrangler
Ditto. "Severely cross bred" If she seems otherwise healthy, don't worry. If you get a vet checkup and/or vaccinations each year, I'd mention it was grade 1 (may change over time?). She's lucky you rescued her .
