Yep, the fish oil for humans is fine. 1 capsule a day. Alternatively, you can give a tin of cheap sardines 3-4 times/ week. Both is too much.

There are other supplements if she has joint problems. Glucosamine and chondritin as ingredients (same as humans use as well as some designed for dogs) but I've not used them.

Be sure to keep her lean. Fat labs will have premature arthritis which is painful for them.

Keeping her lean is more important than any supplement.

It's been shown in humans to be one of the most important factors in improving pain from osteoarthritis and preventing pain in the first place.

I don't know if she is overweight, or not, but labs are notorious for loving their food a bit too much :hitself:.

If her main problem is just increasing age, then I would suggest fish oil at the rate that Poodle Wrangler suggested - 1000mg / dog / day.

I strongly second the recommendation to keep her lean - being even mildly overweight can make a really significant impact to a dog's level of comfort, unfortunately many people don't recognise that until their dog begins to have a problem (when it is much harder to shift it).

If your dog has evidence of joint problems, then I would use a higher dose of fish oil and add a glucosamine / chondroitin supplement to that.

Just a small word of warning about the fish oil capsules. My 2 year old duck dog is now suffering from the highest level mercury levels they have ever seen in a dog - because of the human grade fish oil capsules that you buy from a pharmacy

Not all fish oil capsules are the same and yes she was on large quantities because of allergies 3000mg per day, but most fish oil capsules aren't tested for mercury or arsenic, and if they claim to test, I have asked to see data and none has been forthcoming.

We are now on liquid fish oil that is guaranteed arsenic and mercury free and that you can only get through a vet! :hitself:

I've got a senior dog, and I have started her on Joint Guard because she is a little stiff from time to time, she has picked up and is more playful

The Vets called me today to tell me that there is now a Joint Guard treat, because they knew my little girl LOVES treats!!

I also have her on Fish Oil for her skin, I give her 1 per 10kg, that was the dose the vet recommended!!

She is not overweight, even though she does need to lose a little bit.But the vet said she is ok.I walk her for 40 mins twice a day,so is this enough for exericing? Thank you very much,Poodle wrangler, have a nice weekend!!

What should i look for the signs and symptoms for the joint problem? it seems like she is ok.Thank you!!

It sounds horrible,is your dog doing better now? Hope he is ok.

Maybe i should get the fish oil from a vet instead of a pharmacy,or maybe just feed her tins of sardine.

She is not stiff, but could i still use the Joint Guard as a prevention?

She will love the treat, thank you!!
