ncarter
hi guys, my dog has broken his dewclaw close to the skin. It is still attached just really bent. I cant get to the vets til tomorow. Is there anything i should do in the meantime? There was a little bit of dry bloody on there so it was definitely bent below the level of the quick. Howver he doesnt seem to be in much pain. What is the vet likely to do with it? just cut it off where it is broken and bandage it?
Poodle wrangler
I'd bandage it (not too tight) so it sits in as normal a position as possible and get to the vet asap. Hard to say what the vet will do. I was going to get dewclaws removed on Charlie the standard poodle when he was desexed, but vet wasn't keen. Said he had to dislocate the joint first and in my dog's case they were well attached and it was a bit like amputating a thumb.
