Our house has picked up canine cough, does any one have any tips on how to make it pass quicker?

Our dogs are all staying inside, no walks to the dog park, we are not showing my sisters dogs at the royal show, all but one of the dogs is fully immunised, the other one's vacinations are up to date but at 16 weeks is the worst hit my the virus.

our vet has suggested i keep them warm, have plenty of water and food available and ride it out.

Does any one have any other suggestions?

thank you in advance

I'm with the vet- just supportive care. Antibiotics don't kill viruses. Cough medicines have not been shown to make humans get better sooner, so I doubt it's much different for dogs though it may make them feel a little better (dunno, wish they could talk).

If it gets worse, back to the vet. YOu can get an infection in addition to KC, so they may prescribe antibiotics if worsening.

Being vaccinated is no guarantee of NOT getting it, unfortunately .

Not unlike the flu vaccination in people- you can't be vacc'ed for every strain of virus.

Wot Poodle Wrangler said.

Plus......One of mine has just got over it - started really badly but within a couple of days, he was hardly coughing at all - just the occasional cough now - maybe once a day after exercise......

I put honey in their drinking water (sooths the throat, probably better than a cough mixture), plus Colloidal Silver which is a natural anti-everything and is available from health food stores and some chemists.

If you can get Manuka Honey, I would be giving a teaspoon of it straight (ie not in their drinking water) to each dog each day for a week. That stuff is like gold and works wonders :o

:D

Good luck, it's just a doggy cold, they will get over it.
