MellG
I noticed results in Koda within a week or 2, sheez 5 litres that would last me a good year or so, but then I only have the 2 dogs..
mackindy
Be careful with viatmin A inclusive substances. It is highly (liver) toxic in excessive doses. I've added flax seed oil to my regular fish oil supplementation and it worked a treat. Zinc is good for skin too.
KOE
Good old fashioned cooking oil will do the trick.
Greytmate
The diet sounds ok. Washing the dog once a month may be too often. Try washing in an anti-fungal or anti-dandruff shampoo.
Ping
Dottie has terrible dandruff when she arrived (I assume that is the same as you are talking about). I added sunflower oil and apple cider vinegar to her food daily and it cleared up pretty quickly.
Dogsfevr
We showed a blue Grey & he was washed prior to every show with no ill effects. We just used head n shoulders or selsum blue. Dobermanns are very prone to this & it happens alot on show days you suddenly see the scurf coming from everywhere,We use to just use one of those clothes brushes that remove fluff from your clothes or a damp clothe & rub over. Hastings
My blue Grey is still not 100%. I have his coat stripped out, he's blowing coat at the moment but what is coming through is shining and looks fantastic, he shines in the sun and the actual coat looks tops. He's on a mix of dry, fresh chicken, he gets hard boiled egg twice a week, and sardines and he's on livamol every day but the scurf is still coming through. I bath him less than once a month. I can't work out what he's missing. Suggestions of what he's missing please, I have three weeks until he's in the ring, I'm happy with the coat but need to get rid of the scurf. try giving him a final rinse with a mild vinigar solution , 1 tablespoon vinigar to 1 litre of water. Worked for mine.
ShellyBeggs
I would suggest the fish and cod liver oil tablets too..... maybe try a sprinkle of LSA (from the supermarket) on his dinner too...... Another suggestion a friend of mine tried was a few hours before bathing her scurfy dog she would massage olive oil into the skin.......then would wash with gentle baby shampoo. It worked for her!!!! JulesP
Flaxseed oil actually has all the Omegas in it. You could try rinsing doggie in QV oil. Haven't done it on doggies but it works well for the ponies! You get it at the chemist, blue and white bottle. I feed Proplan Salmon and find that is brilliant for the dogs coat and skin. I've been using it a week and I think it has made a difference, I won;t know for sure for another couple of weeks and until I bath him again. His coat looks super and shiny, it's just the scurfy skin.
WreckitWhippet
I'm putting off bathing him, so I won't know until next Friday if I have really made a difference to his skin, but so far, it's looking very promising. The dry skin has all but gone from around the armpits and I'm getting less scurf coming to the surface , when we have our daily grooming. The true test will be how he comes up after the bath. It's looking good for the ring and he's all set to go. Thanks to you all for your suggestions. I still have a few options to try from here, should the first choices let me down. Poppy's mum
I'd be interested to know how you go. Tielle my blue grey has the same issue. At Paws in the Park on Sunday every other blue grey we met seemed to have a bit of scurf and everyone was whinging. I tried the omega oil caps for 3 months and while she was lovely and shiny, there was still some scurf. Washed her in Malaseb on Friday before Paws in the Park and she still had noticeable dandruff on Sunday. Very vexing! Dr Harry told me to rub her over with a cloth and baby oil, so will try that. Jed
Is he having ACV in his water or meals? Wiping him over daily with an ACV & water solution will help too. I'd watch the Livmol too - it's great on some coloured horses, but a no no for palomino, as it produces dark hairs ("smut") which is not allowed for show palominos. I am not sure what it will do to a blue dog, but it made the dapples on my dark blue dappled horse nearly black (looked STUNNING!!), and my brown horse was covered in black dapples - it takes time though - through a coat change. So, if I see a dappled grey, I'll know who it is??
WreckitWhippet
Jed, he has ACV in his water and the only two bowls he has access to, has it in there. he has no choice but to drink it I'm bathing him next Friday and will know by Sat/Sun if it has worked.
