BC
In the last couple of months Cooper has developed brown clouding on the white part of his right eye. It is on the outside corner of his right eye. When he looks straight ahead, all you can see is brown where it should be white. It doesn't seem to affect him, and his check up is due in October, but I was wondering whether anyone has any ideas ?? Cheers
~Anne~
It could be pigmentary keratitis. Causes are varied and many but the end result is partial blindness if the cause is not treated. The brown continues to spread acorss the eye and the dog ends up looking through a curtain of 'brown'. This means they still see movement, light and dark but nothing very well. It can be caused by eyelashes that turn in, dry eye and other irritants. This is from the website: http://www.pugman.com/Pug%20Information/Pi...0Keratitits.htm Pigmentary Keratitis is a build up of dark scar tissue on the surface of the eye. It appears as a brown pigment that may gradually cover the eye over time, typically starting in the inner corners of the eye. PK can be caused by numerous things, and can sometimes be caused by nothing. Most often, this is a symptom of some other problem, either dry eye, entropion, or ulcers. It can also be caused by overexposure to the elements. Treatment is the use of Cyclosporine or Tacrolimus eyedrops given once to three times daily to try to remove the pigment. Surgery on the eye can help if the scar tissue is being cause by entropion. It is common in Pugs. Best bet is to have it looked at next time you see the Vet. Usually the brown is slow growing and may take years before it spreads but if you grab it early you can resolve it easier.
BC
Thanks Puggles, from the description sounds like a real possibility. He has sensitive eyes and they are often red after he has been running around or it has been windy, so I avoid this now. It is about a 3mm blotch and it hasn't increased in size as yet, but I will definately get the vet to check this out next month. I will make sure to right the name down so they can check for this and get whatever it is fixed. You're a wealth of information
