ShellyBeggs
My 7 1/2 month old aussie pup has had yellow runny poos since I got him...... He didn't have it at the breeders so I thought it could be stress related and/or change of diet.... nearly 8 weeks on and he still has it.... He is a happy vibrant puppy that in all other aspects is healthy and active. He was a 'picky' eater at the breeders and was underweight. He is gaining weight steadily at home (despite the runs) and is regaining a shiny fluffy coat. He can still only eat small meals at a time but if I dont watch him he will eat until he vomits. two vet visits to different vets (fresh samples in hand).......has given me 2 different diagnosis.... one is irritable bowl and to give him steriods.... and the other a bacterial infection based on his general 'smell' (he has bad breath which transfers to his coat as he grooms a lot.....) I am $200 poorer and none the wiser on what is wrong with him......neaither vet sounded 'convincing' that they really knew what was wrong.... and neither vet was concerned that he had btoh testicles and now they have both retreated and yet I think they should be removed ASAP. Any ideas????
bloss344
Is this dog the one you are making the Satin Balls for?
ShellyBeggs
Is this dog the one you are making the Satin Balls for? Yep but he is no better and no worse eating them......(he had the problem before starting on satin balls) Although he is actually putting on weight now which he wasn't before the satin balls..... bloss344
I thought it might have been the high fat content of the Satin Balls. Some dogs intestines don't handle fat well. Could you put him back on the breeders diet for a short while and see if he settles? I realise you probably don't want to go low fat as the pup has a weight issue. Did the vet's give him any medication for the bacterial infection? Antibiotics? Perhaps try probiotics to replace good bacteria. IBD can often be handled with diet and some medication. I know of quite a few dog's who have IBD controlled by diet with very little if any steroid treatment. I think runny poos is a difficult one for vets. There are so many potential causes, diet, IBD, parasites, bacterial overgrowth. I just battled 3 months of pudding poops with Leah my Goldie puppy. She had Coccidiosis and it took several treatments to settle it down. Bob my other dog has IBD and we keep it under control with diet. He has food intolerances, so I know your frustration. Her Majesty Dogmad
The only two dogs that I've had with constant diarrhoea have had 2 problems - 1 had kidney probs and the other had Inflammatory Bowel Disease, he's now on meds (3 lots per day) and a special diet. The dog with kidney probs also had to go on a special diet. You don't mention what you are feeding your dog on? Pumpkin/sweet potato and rice (with whatever else) might be worth a try. Mine cannot tolerate raw meat, none of them, they all get the runs then, even with small amounts. Cooked is fine.
InspectorRex
Does sound familar to Inflammatroy Bowel Diseas( I lost my Champion Rough Collie bitch to this). You need to get your pooch to a qualified Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialist asap. What State are you in?
Toohey
Can you describe his diet for us? Both the breeder's diet and the diet he is on now?
