tramissa
Unfortunately Nutro hasn't worked for my girl I am really disappointed about it as it is a great food, but for her, it's increased yeastiness and staining and she gets only not even a handful per day (less than 1/4 of recommended feeding) and she's still having issues with weight (which started only after beginning the nutro). We're finishing the bag and then will try another brand of food.
Flaves
Tramissa is she on the sensitive one?
ShesaLikeableBiBear
Tramissa which of the Nutro products is your girl on? am surprised you mention staining as this often comes with added colourants and Nutro dosnt contain these. As far as the weight issues are concerned trust you are feeding as per the recommended daily allowance given on the back of the bag. There is no point in cutting back on the amount of food to feed if you are feeding the wrong formula. As with any product there is a formula for over and under weight dogs. tramissa
She is on the Nutro Natural Choice Senior. Could be the small bites senior - the biccies are in maybe 1/2cm sizes with a small hole in the middle. Silver bag (I only just threw out the bag not long ago). I could not find a senior lite version. She should be getting 1/2 - 1 cup per day (if fed nothing else, for moderate activity). She's currently getting 1/4 cup in the morning (or thereabouts, I just pick up a very small handful - it would be less than 1/4 cup), then whatever is left in the afternoon is mixed with a very small handful of Leonard's mince. She gets a turkey neck once per week and nothing else on that day. The tear staining began in the first month of switching to nutro. Her ears got a lot worse as well (yeast infections). We've just started swimming her (yay for new house with a pool), so hopefully that will help with her weight as she's not liking walks much anymore (getting too hot for her now). Crisovar
The yeast infections certainly sound like she is sensitive to something in the food. Despite some of the "does everything including the ironing and folding" claims it is possible for an an animal to be sensitive to an ingredient in any product, no matter how expensive or superior in quality. Just because maisy blows dogs do marvelous on brand XZY does not mean every dog will and as a result, my own animals and manyother who have multiple animals find that they do not all eat the same products. Animals just like people are individuals and the reaction to products ingested or applied are the same, individual.
tramissa
Crisovar, that was my thoughts. That despite how good Nutro is (and I'm not disclaiming it), unfortunately it's just not right for her. We've only got a small amount left and then will be switching to another food. Will only be buying the smallest bags until I can figure out which she does best on
ShesaLikeableBiBear
Tramissa, senior is the one in the silver bag, adult light is in a brown bag. It certainly sounds as if there is something which is not agreeable to your girl. Here is a link to Nutro's website and in particular the senior food which gives you the info which you need, but the problem would be working out which of the ingredients is the cause. This could only be done by a skin specialist who would be able to do allergy tests. http://www.nutroproducts.com/ncdry-sen.shtml Before you switch to another brand would suggest that you also do a comparison of ingredients just to make sure it doesnt contain the same as is in Nutro.
