scubadog30
Hello All, As a newbie to DOL, I was wondering if anybody can tell me the difference between the NDTF Cert 3 and the Delta Cert 4 courses. There is an obvious difference in the pricing, and am trying to work out just what the difference is (In a basic sense). Thanks
squeak
I looked at both before deciding to do the NDTF course. The main thing influencing my decision... Delta - teaches "positive" training techniques only NDTF - teaches ALL techniques I personally felt that the scope of Delta, since the teach positive only was too limited. NDTF also teaches a lot of dog behaviour stuff, but I am unsure of the Delta content for this part.
Hyland Mist
HI Delta as mentioned teaches "positive" only. You are not to use correction collars etc. The NDTF shows how to use all types of equipment and training techniques. Cheers
scubadog30
Hi guys thanks for the quick replys. Ive been reading a lot on this site regarding both courses, and i understand about Delta positive reinforcement only policies. Personally i feel it's important to know about ALL aspects of training which includes the use of reasonable punishments, and when and how to use them effectively and appropriately. But what i'm trying to understand is what makes the "Cert 4" better than the "Cert 3" Or is there any difference in it at all??
helen
With any certificates a certificate IV is a higher qualification than an a certificate III
Rom
I'm sure that someone will correct me on this if I'm wrong but I think I remember reading somewhere that Delta's Cert 4 is in "Companion Animal Services". NDTF does do Cert 4 to specialise as a Dog Behaviourist as opposed to dog trainer (the Cert 3 part), but the Cert 4 part is not run on a regular basis.....its only done when there is sufficient interest and the applicable lecturers are available. Choosing which you want to do will depend on how you wish to specialise I guess.
haven
That is correct ROM, Delta delivers the Companion Animal Services qualification, which is a Certificate IV, while the NDTF deliver the Certificate III in Dog Behaviour and Training. In order to decide which course suits your wants/needs, I would recommend that you examine exactly what units make up each course and what specifically is taught and assessed in each unit as per the training package.
