Tiger_bluez
Hi I just get a new puppy which is a female husky x shepherd. She is so gorgeous in term of look and personality. Today is the second day i have her in my home. We passed the introduction stage with my housemate's dog and my cat. She is cheeky and placid. It has been ages since i have my last puppy, i totally forgetful how a normal puppy should behave. she seems very content playing with herself, when i take her to the my backyard with the other dog to encourage her wee on the grass, she just stays next on my feet, doesn't want to play with the other dog at all. I thought puppy loves to play. she is happy playing with herself and me . and until now she hasn't go toilet at all. she has eaten twice and drink but hasn't wanna do toilet yet. What i should do to encourage her when i took her outside? I laid down on my bed feeling a bit tired and she just happily join me to have a snooze as well, for 1 hour. do you think it's a normal puppy behaviour? i never had a very placid puppy like this before. she is 8 weeks, had her first vaccination and i am going to get her desexed when she is 6 months old. her name is Zoya thanks
disorder
Maybe your pup hasn't come out of her shell yet? The first few days we had our pup at home he was a little angel and quite reserved for a puppy, didn't chew anything he wasn't supposed to, was happy just to sit at our feet where ever we went and play by himself and not get into any mischief etc. But once it hit about a week he came out of his shell completely! And we met a different puppy! Crazy/Hyper, wanting to play with other dogs constantly, chewing everything he wasn't supposed to, and generally just being a stereo typical naughty but very cute little pup. Maybe she is just getting used to her new environment and is taking a few days to settle?
deltron
I had a very similar experience to disorder... when charlie first came home he was a nice quiet pup happily trotting around and having naps on our laps. Then once he was comfortable (about 2 days) - he became a little terror!
KOE
must be the german shepherd in her if I lay down so do my lot always have since puppy's, a shepherd knows there is no need to exert too much energy.
cavNrott
When you say she hasn't toileted, do you mean she hasn't peed or pooped? If this is still the case I would be taking her to the vet ASAP. It's always wise to take a new puppy for a vet check within the first couple of days.
LittleMiss
You have to remember too that as a puppy she has a lot of growing to do and the only time animals and people grow is when they are asleep. Hence the reason babies and puppies sleep so much! My current Husky puppy who is 3 months will fall asleep when she is ready and then even if I pick her up and juggle her in my arms (trying to move her to her bed whilst also carrying dishes from the lounge room to the kitchen and turning off lights etc) She will just nod off in my arms - too tired and stubborn to wake up. As for her not socialising yet - she has just been taken from everything familiar to her and it will take time for her to get used to the change of you and your new home and her new playmates (dog & Cat etc) So just keep encouraging her but don't rush everything. Miranda
Baby puppies can take up to a week to adjust to their new environment. Remember that leaving familiar surroundings, dam and siblings is highly traumatic for a puppy and it is normal for them to be a little bewildered at first, being quiet, eating poorly and sleeping a lot are all perfectly normal. Puppies generally sleep a lot anyway when they are small, the puppy usually plays and then sleeps, it is all part of the growing process. Regarding not toileting, I assume you mean pooing and not weeing, if she hasn't urinated at all take her to the vet, stress and/or a change of diet can cause diarrhoea or constipation in young puppies. Tiger_bluez
Hi thanks for the responses. I feel much better now that she seems normal. She does like sleeping though. This morning I took her out to backyard and she did poop, I am very happy and give her a little treat. my concern was she didn't straight away poop or wee when i take her out to backyard after have her meals. She has vet checked and first vaccination and I have to take her again for her second vaccination next month. I am hoping to enroll her to puppy preschool soon. I guess i must be a nervous parent.. it just the 3rd day. She is so beautiful and well behaved puppy ever. thanks heaps This is a pic of Zoya :D

Gayle.
She's beautiful and yes, perfectly normal for a puppy in a new home. Before you know it, she'll be bouncing around everywhere, chewing everything and getting up to all kinds of mischief. As far as toileting goes, try walking her gently around the yard....sometimes the body motion gets things moving a bit faster.
Tiger_bluez
I take a day off today and really wanna focusing on toilet training her. I think the problem was she used using kitty litter to go toilet, so she hasn't grab the idea that she has to poop and wee on the grass. But i am really happy, today she is doing so well. After her meal, i took her out straight away and I don't have to wait forever this time, she did poop and wee in 10 mins. I am getting a crate from ebay soon with such a good price.. at the moment she sleeps with me on my bed, she is very cuddly.. but i thought it won't be cute anymore when she grows up and sleep on me. And my cat Mocha is not quite happy sharing his bed with him :D I try to teach her to sit but everytime she comes to me , she straight away sit down. I think she is quite lazy pup. I am so nervous, i feel that i have to teach her alot of things before she gets too old. This is another pic of Zoya. she loves water and enjoy her first bath. Nicole...
Zoya is absolutely beautiful!!!!!! We just got our gorgeous little cocker spaniel girl 11 days ago and we went through exactly the same thing. She spent the first 24 hours as quiet as a mouse, just slept and lazed around and sat between my fet when she was awake. Then it was like somebody flicked a switch as she settled in and she became a demon child!!! She still has her lovely affectionate times, but she is into everything when she's in play mode! Tiger_bluez
Hi again sorry for another interuption. Zoya has doing her toilet training very well. I don't have to wait for an hour for her to do pee/poop. I am start getting a slightly better sleep now. LOL anyway.. i just purchased a large crate from ebay. so far she has been sleeping on my bed with me. It quite nice having her with me actually, but i don't want it to be a habit. So what I should put inside the crate and how to encourage her sleeping there without much crying? i am planning to put the crate inside my room, so i can take her out easily for her toilet breaks. Do i need to put a water bowl inside the crate? newspaper? toys? nice bedding? should i close the crate door or leave it open? can someone suggest me a good puppy preschool that have a reasonable price and near malvern area? I like RSPCA price but the schedules are not fit in. I prefer on saturday morning. what do you think of this one http://dogtraining.com.au/dogzone.htm it's pretty close by my area. the downside is the next class will be 15 sept.. i am hoping to enroll Zoya as soon as possible. thanks
Gayle.
Is there a community obedience club in your area? I joined my local one and it's fantastic fun. We're currently in the puppy class, which is mostly about socialising (while on leads), being nice on a lead and some very basic commands. The club will be there as long as I want it......I can go right through to trialling in obedience, agility, tracking etc if I want to....or I can just go until my puppy learns a level of obedience that I'm happy with. We're in it for the long haul though.......Saturday mornings are so much fun now! The best thing about being in a club is you can go at your own pace.....there's no set "course" you need to complete and if you miss a class every now and then, it's no matter and you're not wasting money. There are also a lot of very experienced people on hand.....not professional dog trainers, but people like you and me who have dogs and have trained them to a high level. And it's very reasonably priced. I paid an annual subscription (under $100) which included the whole family and the classes are a gold coin donation. We have our first graduation in a few weeks, and that promises to be a fun day with a BBQ lunch put on by the club.
Tiger_bluez
I fed Zoya a bit too much last night resulting she pooping alot. Usually she has been good holding herself, but she must be have a bit diarrhea. She doesn't pooping anymore, and she still her usual self, happy and playful. No wonder she was abit sook last night. I read that i am not supposed to feed her for 24 hours. But i think i am gonna skip her 3rd meal and go straight to her 4th meal instead later tonight. do you think its a good idea? she loves her food. I am abit upset cause she has been really good with toilet training and we don't have any accidents for few days.. well at least she did it in newspaper when i was at work. cheers
