Gsd Puppy Weeing On Bed

Good morning all.

I have an 11 week old German shepherd who sleeps on a bed which is a big canvas dog cushion thing with a polar fleece blanket over the top. She is in a cosy corner of the kitchen where is is quite happy to retreat to and happy sleeping at night and at she is outside during the day... So she has on a few occasions weed on her bed... Now i thought this was the only place dogs wouldnt wee on but once when i put the bed outside to wee she weed on it and then she has ripped the polar fleece blanket off and weed on the bed itself... Why would she do this on purpose? She can go to the toilet on command and knows outside is where she goes.

We have borrowed a crate but are not going down that path, although Im sure its great were going to manage without it as the crate as thousands have done as its too large for the kitchen and the metal noise scares the hell out of our cat.. So the crates out (sorry guys)

We also move the bed around at times (she doesnt like this) and we sit on it it to show her its our property just as the instructors at obedience training told us to....

Any suggestions?

What did you do when found she had done the wee on her bed? I know most dogs wont wee in their bed, but I had one that did that years ago, trying to think now what we did to stop her also. I know we had to get rid of the bed and get another one. Once they wee there, they think tis ok. That is why I dont give a puppy a bed til they are older, I use a cardboard box til then. But GSD is so much bigger and a cardboard box isnt that good for them. At 11 weeks she sould be able to hold for awhile. But puppies, some can, some cant. I had my puppy beside our bed, and he wakes us up when he wants to go, he's now 15 weeks old. But he's a toy poodle and fits beside the bed.

Im looking forward to other replies bout this problem.

I love GSDs, bet she is a lovely dog otherwise. She will learn what is acceptable and what is not soon enough, but til then, they sure can give you stress !!!!!

mmmm interesting. You'd be more inclined to the dog saying "it's mine" if it was your bed or another dog bed.

The puppy is only 11 weeks old, could this just be one of those things?

hi, Our 14 weeks GSD did the same thing when he was 8 to about 11 or 12 weeks. He just stopped doing it by himself, I was very careful to wash his bed because if it smells like a toilet she will use it like a toilet. If you cant wash her bed spray with metho or white vinegar to neutalise the smell of urine. I am sorry I am not a lot of help to you. our fella just seemed to grow out it or perhaps his bladder got stronger. I always thought they would never urinate where they slept too. Although he still wees in the car no matter what I try. good luck

Dante pissed on his outside bed this morning...he's toilet trained but he didn't want to get his pretty little head wet as it's raining....little shyte.

Hi,

My JRT used to pee on her bed too. I went through 4 of them I think before I finally bought one that she approved of, and just didn't pee on that one so it's a keeper! Mine has a little warm donut type bed for out in the lounge, and she sleeps in a crate of a night time. She is 6 months and goes through the night without peeing now which is good.

I used to wash her beds but found she just kept peeing on them. Maybe buy a new one? Perhaps dogs are fussy about their bedding too lol.
