What do you think regarding the sharing or not of training toys? Should each dog have their own toy(s) that no other dog has, and what is the relative effectiveness of having (a) communal toy(s) (used during one on one training)?

I've done this as a poll but would be interested in the reasoning behind your choice.

Are you talking about the sharing of training toys within the 'same' dog pack family?

When I use training toys with the dogs I work with, I wash them before using them with another dog in another family - but that's just for hygiene purposes. So I guess that's not what you mean?

I chose shared toy but used individually. Mostly because I am worried about either a fight if they both really like and want the toy or that one dog might intimidate the other off the toy and make the other lose interest (has happened before with Zoe intimidating Diesel when Diesel came near me).

I am assuming you are talking about tugs etc? For other toys such as kongs etc they share, although if there is food involved Zoe is separate as she can be aggro.

Erny, you guess right. I mean my own dogs.

(Edit coz I spelled "Ernie" - sorry - I'll blame this darn virus *sniff sniff sneeze*)

That's ok ..... I'll blame my post on feeling a bit thick-headed. I realised after I re-read that you would mean sharing amongst your own dog.

I voted option 2 as well.

Although there are a couple of toys that are either not attractive or too precious to risk with certain members of my crew.

Sometimes I will play with a toy with more than one dog, but again, not the precious ones. Mine don't get protective about their toys so I don't see any reason to do differently. I also think it can be effective when one dog is aware that another is playing with a special toy and can increase the value of the toy.

I am also reluctant to use toys with all 4. As the boys get older I worried about them getting crashed or hurt during the enthusiasm.
