KitKat
Reddi!!! That was you!!! Hi!!!!! Your CK is a darling boy If it wasn't your boy staring at B...it was B staring at CK ;) Cheeky sods! Bronx used to interact a lot with ML's BC's....i think B would have been fine to meet and greet with CK but after dealing with Sabe before hand i was to tired to deal with B possibly being silly Maybe next week Varicool- Bahahaha...i was one of his first admirers to pick him up and take off with him while cuddling...but i certainly wasn't the one who taught him to slip the tounge when kissing It's one of the fab things with lil dogs...being able to still pcik them up as adults! ETA - Sabe can't be distracted by food when starting a tantie or being in full tantie like that - unless you are there giving him what he wants (attention). Bronx is more food orientated then Sabe - mores the pity! Edited August 14, 2007 by KitKat

KitKat
Must admit...the zappy collar is my preferred choice - mostly because Sabe knows that being contained or secured and left isn't a bad thing...and has had it happen on and off his entire life! But last night with all the dogs and all the people and hte new area...and there i was off with Bronx having 'fun'...*sigh* The Brat is lucky he's a sweetie! sidoney
Sabe can't be distracted by food when starting a tantie or being in full tantie like that Just quickly, it may be possible so long as you were in the early stages, and he was not over emotional about it. This is the problem I had with one of my doggies (foster). I had to start with little steps and then build up as she learned resilience to being left out of the training session. If it gets too "tantyish" then it's too late. You know your own dog better than I do (!!!!) but with my rescue, I could not have used a negative on her as it would have stressed her out too much. The positive reinforcement for quiet was a good way to settle her and help her relax. Edited August 14, 2007 by sidoney
KitKat
Sabe responds well to food from the hand...however he will leave food to see what you are doing or to be with you and you have to send him back to the food. Well timed negatives work well...but he is a softy so it can be a matter of being careful with him - he's certainly my problem child! But i'll see how he goes next Monday night after that if nothing else i might be able to arrange his covered crate and someone to drop food in when he's being peacefully quiet...lol
sidoney
I've heard of dogs at trials in the US being left in crates with a container of food on top and a sign saying "please feed me when I'm quiet"! It helps to associate the reward with the behaviour rather than with the owner, to have different people give the reward. KitKat
That's probably not a bad idea either - unfortunatly i believe there is only one or two people not doing classes that hang around at training that might be able to do it. But i'll certainly be keeping the idea in mind tho!
Kavik
When I brought both Kaos and Diesel to obedience, Diesel would also scream when I trained Kaos! And KitKat aren't Shepherd screams just great! I'm not sure if I am just lazy or don't mind putting people through it LOL but I just left him and he did get better, the screaming got shorter and less intense. He is not the only one at training to do this, and nobody complained to me about it. At the moment I am only bringing Diesel to obedience, as his day out, and Kaos goes out to different places. Just easier, it is tiring swapping dogs in the middle of class LOL.
KitKat
Oh yeah...the Shepherd screams are such a treat...i mean Sabe sounded like he was being beaten with two sticks and a rock! He's a shocker! I don't think some of the other trainers believed me when i said it was 'just him' - so felt guilty knowing that several people were crabby about it. (However it was good distration for those class 4 dogs ;) lol) Mind you i felt better when our trainer said there had been many worse carrying on then Sabe at times and that i wasn't to worry to much I'm not having to do the swap overs just yet as Sabe is in the first class at 7.30 and Bronx is in the third class at 8.30 - but it will happen that there will be swapsies eventually!
