Daggles
I have a 14 week old German Shepherd Dog. When he was 9 weeks old we went to in laws place 4 hours away and puppy made it all the way with only one stop to relieve himself. We go for regular trips in the car and he always wee's on the floor on the way home. He sits in the passger footwell on newspaper (no he is not paper trained) and a towel. The strange thing is that he wee's laying down as if to hide it from me. (at 10 weeks when he first wee'd in the car he got yelled at) what can I do? KitKat
It could be submissive urination - and having been yelled at for it has perhaps made it worse. Have him checked out for a UTI perhaps (is this the only time he pees where he shouldn't?)? Also perhaps teach him to pee on command so that you can at least get him to pee before he gets in the car - or make sure he does pee before getting into the car? Also look at Bellybands just in case which will at least soak up the pee if he does accidently wee.
Poodle wrangler
Is he otherwise toilet trained? I used an airline crate in the car, though this was more for vomiting (winding roads around here) until the dogs no longer got car sick. Can hose it out. I made sure pup had a stop for pees about every half hour when driving anywhere. Even then, he managed to wee/poo in the crate occasionally, but all good now he's toilet trained. Will whinge to go now.
Daggles
This is the only time he wees in the wrong place, he hasnt wee'd inside for many weeks. I have tried to get him to wee on command by saying "do wees" and giving a reward when he does. He never wees when on the lead so it seems we always leave the training grounds with a full bladder. Where can I get a bellyband? What does submissive urination really mean? I know I may have created the problem by yelling, I didnt mean to, it was an instant reaction. sas
Ooops, bad move yelling at a puppy for having an accident, what you have done is created a puppy that knows it can not toilet infront of you as it makes you angry, hense the laying down. You need to go back to step one and praise the hell out of the dog for toileting in the right spot and no more yelling. It's just a puppy, lighten up. Also try walking puppy around before getting back in the car, some puppies don't like to toilet away from home until thy ar abit older but give it a go.
