Eileen
She has never been too bad with toilet training (she is now 4 months old), we had very few accidents, but that is mostly cos we have always taken her out regularly. She has now started going to the door and sitting there waiting for us to notice her, and if we don't, after a bit, she has a little whimper to remind us. On the other hand, she is also teething, so she is being a little trying - she has gone back to nipping us, which she had totally stopped, plus she gets shitty if we tell her to do something she doesn't want to do - so it is kinda nice she is being so mature in another area! Poodle wrangler
Good dog for toilet training  . Bad dog for nipping. Raw bones are great for teething time. I also have a 'Nylabone' type chew bone for indoors (less messy). More training and perhaps she's tesing the boundaries? Be firm and consistent now, so she grows into a nice dog to live with. You can start her in obedience at this age. Don't need to compete. Our local obedience club is geared more to well-mannered pets, though some are right into it. Yes I think she is totally testing the boundaries. We did enrol at the local obedience club, but I am not 100% sure with the training how that helps her stop nipping and throwing tantrums when she doesn't want to do something. I know that sounds stupid, but we must be doing something wrong here. Because: she is quite quick to learn. She "heels" on lead when I am holding the lead the way they showed us. She can sit and drop no matter how many distractions are around. When the instructor shows us something new, Dolly is such a showoff, she picks it up quite quickly and then we do it at home too. I make her sit before food, she is not allowed on the bed, though she is on the couch; she was meant to sit before she came up but now she just barrels up. But yes, she nips again, which she had stopped and I just wish you could see what she does when she doesn't want to get off the couch, go outside, not come into the bathroom etc. There is all this groaning and sqeaking (staffy), together with rolling her head into the couch and half looking at us then rolling more. Then a few frustrated barks. It's totally like a little doggy tantrum.

Dante's similar, as a very young puppy we had a lot of trouble with him nipping and biting, that got sorted and now he's teething he's at it again, so we're giving him lot's of things to chew likes apples and chew toys etc etc. If she's getting 'shitty' with you when you're telling her what to do, sounds like she needs to be put back in her box, has she been to puppy school yet? In the early days, Dante would pack MASSIVE tantrums, he would scream, bite, throw himself around yadda yadda yadda, we found a great trainer to train us how to handle him more effectively and since the first session with her we are yet to see another tantrum...it all comes down to leadership, a dog throwing a tantrum is smply disrepecting you. Where do you live? she is not allowed on the bed, though she is on the couch; she was meant to sit before she came up but now she just barrels up. That's being inconsistent and that's what leaders aren't Edited August 12, 2007 by sas

By inconsistent, do you mean cos we were making her sit and now we don't, or do you mean allowed on couch on not on bed is inconsistent? Cos I guess both make sense. sas
By being inconsistent, I mean that you used to make her sit and now she doesn't do that anymore to get up on the sofa. The best thing we did for Dante (we are currently doing) is attending a 6 week puppy school out in Austral, yes it's a bit of a drive but it kicks ass when it comes to Vet Puppy Pre-Schools and obedience Clubs for young puppies, it shows you how to be the leader of your dog in a way you feel comfortable with it and how to train your dog in a very effective manner. http://www.camarna.com/index.htm Luci Ellem who is the trainer there got Dante going great and I think from what I have read Dante's behaviour was a lot worse than your puppies.
