First Aid Kit

Recommended Posts

I have first aid stuff for my dogs all over the place and I have decided to put it all in one place so it is easier to find what I need just like my whelping kit.

I was curious as to what people have in their doggy first aid kit.

First Aid Kit:

Dog First Aid Kits can either be purchased or made at home. If you are making one yourself get a durable, waterproof (or at least water-resistant) container that opens and closes easily yet securely. Write on the container, in indelible ink, the phone numbers for your vet, the closest emergency animal hospital, and poison control hotlines. Also list your own name, address and phone numbers. It should be large enough to hold the items mentioned below.

• Animal first aid book

• Blunt nosed scissors

• Tweezers (flat slant tip instead of the rounded variety)

• Rubber gloves

• Towel

• Blanket

• Plastic baggies

• Sterile gauze pads

• Rolled gauze

• Adhesive first aid tape (in narrow and wide widths)

• Cotton rolled

• Bandages (including self-clinging or vet wrap and waterproof types)

• Anti-bacterial wipes or pads

• Hot/cold pack

• Betadine solution

• Antibiotic ointment

• Paw Paw ointment (good for soothing skin conditions)

• Sterile saline eye solution (for flushing out wounds

• Styptic powder (to stop bleeding of torn toenails, etc.)

• Gentle pet sedative such as Rescue Remedy

• Adjustable muzzle (an injured or scared animal may try to bite)

• Nylon leash

Also have in your car:

• Bottled water

• Bowl or other container to use for water

• Spare leash
