RottiesNRags
I am looking for a place that I can put my malamute in to get groomed.. The one around the corner from us wont take malamutes and gave me no reason why! I get him hydrobathed but the guy that I use now doesn't have a dryer Anyone have a place that they can recommend. I don't care where it is in Perth. Just as long as they do a good job and don't charge like a wounded bull.. Cheers
Red Mal
When we were in Perth with our Mal we used to have the mobile Groomers come (can't remember the name) but she loved it
Golden Rules
I boarded my GRs at showdog's kennels, and she did a great job with them before they came home. Just PM showdog - she is in Canning Vale. ILoveFlatCoats here has also used her. Where in Perth are you as I may know someone closer in case you are at the opposite end of the city to Canning Vale! Ari
Dont get mad. They're a big dog and many groomers have bad backs. Goes with the job. I dont do them anymore either.
Red Mal
Dont get mad. They're a big dog and many groomers have bad backs. I don't mean to be rude but grooming a big dog is way easier as you don't have to bend down, whereas you do with little dogs, therefore causing back problems RNR - There must be an underlying reason, why they won't groom Bloo, if it were me, I would ask for the reason, if you don't ask, you don't get Our mobile groomers never had a problem and had a few Mals on his list and he loved them too which helped and played with them afterwards

Ari
You can lift a little dog into the bath, on to the table, keep it standing up to clip it with 2 fingers. You can not do that with a big dog so easily. My back kills after a big dog that wont stand up. I am talking about proper grooms though. Not simple dunk them in the water and lightly dry that a lot of mobile groomers do around here. Other reasons groomers might not want to do them.... They might not want the mess of double coated breeds (yep, one groomer around here refuses them because the neighbour complains about the hair escaping and too many complaints could see her shut down) They might make more money doing clips than washing/deshedding big dogs. Perhaps they've had a bad experience with the breed. There are a ton of reasons someone might not want to groom them. I actually prefer not to groom my own breed because I struggle to deal with seeing them so neglected. In the end its their business and they can do whatever they like. I do find it strange that they didn't give you a reason at all though.
Loraine
PM Margaretdazzler she is south of the river and I know she grooms and has a hydrobath - won a prize with her owned groomed collie at the last Royal Perth Show.
Poodle wrangler
I have to agree with Ari about it being much easier to bath and groom smaller dogs. I have a miniature poodle (8kg) and large standard poodle (25kg, only 8 months). Many groomers also won't do standard poodles. A lot of hair, but possibly easier to clip as some areas less fiddly. Dogsfevr
Many wont do mallies due to the condition many owners bring them in. As i said in my pm to the poster the last mallie we did took 2 of us 6 hrs.We charge a very minial price but in reality we could have earnt $150 more in that time Many come in not brushed with clumps falling out & there pants matted so many groomers just dont find grooming them worth the money. Most arent groomed so there not trained & i can tell wrestling with a 50 kg dog is very tiring .time consuming & hard on the body.
