Kaffy Magee
Went to get some ingredients for one of the many satin ball recipes and i couldnt find at hamburger mince at the supermarket but i found some sausage mince, will that do? Update: Thanks Morgan, no wonder i couldnt find "hamburger mince" I went and got some lamb mince and made them up tonight. And boy does he love it(my young dobie boy). Hes a fairly picky eater, doesnt just dive in and wolf it down so when i gave him satin ball, he took it, spat it out, had a lick, thought the other dogs were going to take and ....wolfed it down, wanting more. I left the door open while i went and got some more, so in he comes all bright eyed, tail wagging clearly desperate to havemore. So how much do i give him? He is only young so i certainly dont want to make him fat but he burns so much energy during the day that its hard to keep the weight on him. So does anyone know how much should i feed him daily? Thanks! Edited August 8, 2007 by Kaffy Magee
morgan
Personally I wouldn't touch sausage mince - too much other stuff in it. Just get the cheapest beef mince your supermarket sells, as it has a higher fat content. It isn't usually labelled hamburger mince, if that is what you have been looking for. espinay2
'hamberger mince' is an 'americanism'. It basically means the fattier type beef mince.
ShellyBeggs
I was appalled that my local supermarket was charging $9 per kg for crappy 'hamburger' mince and since my satin ball recipe calls for 4.5kg....that was a lot of $$$$$ I spoke to my butcher and he sells 100% beef pet mince.......since it also includes a lot of the fat and offals.....he recommended it as ideal to use as a higher % fat content then his usual beef mince providing it wasn't for human consumption.....its also minced to a finer smooth texture and I found I needed less of the wet contents to hold it together. My dogs love the satin balls......and considering how fast they scoff them I doubt they stop to ask what sort of mince it is. Even my poor thin little bubba loves them and he is a picky eater and would soon as not eat as eat...Its the protein % and fat % to gain weight. I dunno about sausage mince but I suggest talking to your local butcher. The recipe I have includes all the breakdown of protein/fat/carbs etc for that recipe......and has a scale on how much to feed....if you want a copy send me a PM with your email addy! Cheers!!!! Gayle.
What are "satin balls"? Pardon my ignorance.
Ashli
What are "satin balls"? Pardon my ignorance. Satin balls are usually used for dogs that need to gain weight, or are malnourished. My rescue girl was really skinny, and I always found it hard to get any weight on her. After giving her the satin balls she started puttin on weight, and is in tip top condition
