Kono
I'm shortly bringing home a new pup and the breeder recommends continuing him on the Barf diet. Does anyone know a supplier in the Perth metro area? Thanks

sandgrubber
There's no such thing as "The Barf Diet" . . . it's about like saying "The Chinese Meal". BARF is a style of feeding carnivorous animals, not A diet. Try google'ing the word (add 'dog' to your search terms to avoid getting a lot of vomit references). You'll find lots of suggestions. I feed BARF style . . . the local butcher (or Leonards) is a good place to start, and the markets for fruit and veg. The stores that other people have listed will stock some of the secondary things you may choose to add. But unless you want to pay as much for your dogfood as you would for barramundi steak, I'd suggest using chicken frames as a main staple and building from there. I thought one of the reasons for feeding BARF was so you knew exactly what was in your dog's food???? I know Dr Billinghurst makes BARF patties, but I thought it was supposed to be a mainly bones, offal type additives and raw vegies/fruit. I can understand that the patties are more convenient. pie
I believe the recommendation is to feed 50% patties & 50% raw meaty bones? I agree the patties are rather expensive but i my dog is only 4.5kgs so it isn't too bad for me. If your dog is a bit bigger perhaps try and make your own? it would work out much cheaper, if i had more dogs I would make it myself. I second the Lenards mince It's quite cheap and my dog loves it, i use it for when I can't get to a place that sells Dr B patties.
poodlefan
I believe the recommendation is to feed 50% patties & 50% raw meaty bones? I'd feed that ratio to a puppy. Mature dogs I feed 2/3 RMBs.

StaceyB
Do you need to cook the pet mince you get or just leave it raw? My parent always fed our dogs raw mince, but other people have said it's best to cook it. I would think leave it raw, but you guys know more about this topic than I do.... I only feed human grade mince and I feed it raw. However, I only feed it mixed into a BARF mix.
Malamum
I also feed mince raw - but I only buy human grade ( the pet mince makes me feel ill ). They do only get the 3 star mince though - not the 5 star extra lean mince that I buy for us.
