bret
Hi all. i just need to ask about dogy dandruff. maiya's skin is very flakey. after taking her to the vet for desexing i asked him about the skin, he said just to give her some monunsaturated oil every day with her dinner, that hasn't worked. i am wondering what to use for a shampoo. here is what i do, and given that i just washed her 2 days ago and her skin is bad now,i am assuming that it is that. i have an oatmeal shampoo from dermcar, called alloveen. i washed her in the shampoo. i also have a satin black shampoo from professional groomer, whic is for black coated dogs. I am thinking that it is this possibly that is doing. i also have a conditioner from allowveen, i haven't put that in her yet, but i am going to do that today as a leave in conditioner. does anyone have any recomendations ? i only usually wash her 1 time a month, when she gets smelly. thanks bret

shmoo
yup breed would be good and i wouldnt say you are washing her too much. do you brush her? that helps to stimulate the oils in the skin and coat.

dogbesotted
ok so she would have a full long coat. I would not be using any highlighting shampoo at all. The aloveen is good. I would be especially carefull with rinsing the shampoo out of the coat. ( would not leave the conditioner in either) maybe the final rinse could be with : either a) for light coat 1 camomile tea bag in 1 cup boiling water. leave intil cool, strain , add juice of 1 lemon. Pour over dog and leave in b) dark coated dog 1 tablespoon rosemary steeped in 1 cup boiling water..leave to cool, strain and add 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar. pour over dog and leave in. I would also be looking at adding some fish to the diet. cheers H Edited July 29, 2007 by dogbesotted
zoo
We use Squirt which apparently has no detergent in it whatsoever.
PeiLuvR
Head and Shoulders anti-dandruff human shampoo will do the job ! Works wonders. And i agree on adding fish (tuna, sardines) to her diet, once or twice a week
Poodle wrangler
I agree about making sure you rinse the coat really well. Better if you can use a shower hose attachment, even if it's one of those cheap plastic ones that go on to your tap. When you brush, you need to part the fur with one hand so you can brush right down to the skin. Love BCs .
