skwo2
The vet has prescribe Chelsea Grisovin tablets for treating her ringworm. I want to know if anyone here is aware of the tablets side effects? I try to search on the web, but didn't find any info about side effects.
Rappie
The most common side effects are related to the gastrointestinal tract - decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea. Sometimes animals can seem depressed or incoordinated and you must let your vet know if you see signs like this. Long term treatment in can lead to effects on white and red blood cells, and also the liver but these effects are generally seen in debilitated, very young or very old patients. skwo2
Oh, side effects on gastrointestina tract, is that why my vet ask me to put oil into her diet, so to give her a fatty meal, to prevent the side effects? How soon can I take her off these tablets? When the ring is totally gone? Anyway, she will be recheck in 2 weeks time.
Rappie
The fatty meal is to help with the absorption of the drug because it is poorly water soluble. When she can be taken off will depend on the response to treatment and needs to be continued for a time after the active lesions have resolved - be guided by your vet on that one, as they will know whether they have a positive culture by your recheck in 2 weeks time. skwo2
Is Canoli oil ok to be added to her meal? What type of oil is good for dogs? We always heard that never put oil in their food.
cavNrott
I wouldn't use Canola oil I much prefer Sunflower oil. Do you give your dogs fish oil capsules or vit E capsules?
