Royal Canin From Nutrience

Hi all,

I am currently feeding my 2 Borders Nutrience Active. My boy has been off it a while and really doesnt like it, the girl never liked it and I have a hard time getting her to eat at all.

My German Shepherd eats Royal Canin and they are always trying to steal her food :) It has a strong smell to it and is very oily on the outside whereas the Nutrience (even the active formula) is very dry.

I was thinking of switching the Borders onto Royal Canin Sensitive.

Does anyone else here feed or has fed Royal Canin? Have you found good or bad results? Which formula do you feed your dogs (energy or sensitive)?

Thanks.

:) thanks for your reply!!

I dont know whether to feed the sensible (not sensitive LOL silly me), or the energy. My dogs arent highly active (they get a daily run at the park) so I was thinking maybe the Sensible.

It is also quite hard to find people who are stocking other foods and I know that most stock Royal Canin.

we feed both our own dogs and the boarding kennel dogs on royal canin.

i have to say after testing most foods on the market, RC wins hands down.

dogs that are here long term go home looking and feeling much better then when they came in to boarding, most poeople

ring us back with in days and ask what we feed after there dogs have been here.

old dogs do so well because of the joint flexcare

Hi Pegasus,

The nutrience active protein is 30% and fat is 20% i though sensible would have a higher protein than 25% :) I will see how the sensible goes as i think that 30% fat is a little too high for my guys :)

I know that Royal Canin has 2 types of Energy food but they are in the maxi range I thought, not the medium range. I am feeding a fairly young bitch and i know she wont eat maxi kibble. Can someone please explain these to me? And are the fat and protein %s the same in both energys?

Ta :)

Maxi Sensible - A couple of adult girls who get ear problems sometimes

Hi Pegasus,

Can you please explain how the food helps with ear problems? I've never considered the connection before.

So is the Energy 4800 for medium breeds, and the Energy 4300 for large breeds?

It says that 4300 is for moderate energy levels and 4800 is for intense energy levels....

Had a look on the net, Energy 4300 has protein 33.0 % and fat 21.0 %

This sounds better to me. I didnt really want to go to a lower protein diet like the Sensible

Yes the 4300 is the Maxi (dogs over 25kg) and the 4800 is the Medium (dogs 10-25kg) (much higher energy levels).

There's also a Medium adult (just to confuse you even more!!) but it has a main ingredient of corn, which is a no-no.

Edit- for some more info

I am familiar with the general range but this Energy range confuses me :) lol

How come the energy for for medium dogs (4800) says that it should be given to dogs that get longer periods of intense exercise (eg; sled dogs, sheepdogs). But the energy for maxi dogs says that it should be given to dogs that get shorter periods of exercise (eg; greyhound racing)....why isnt there a medium energy for shorted periods of exercise?? Does this mean I should just feed the maxi energy? I dont really want to give my dogs 30% fat (medium energy) lol, the maxi is only 21% fat.

Pegasus?? :):)

See I'm more familiar with the energy & breeding/puppy range, even so, I've gotten myself confused now :) (sorry, I'm still in zombie mode from puppies, so my head is spinning  )

It is quite odd that they don't have another energy type of food, but yes, the Med. Energy (4800) is for LOTS of energy (does wonders for the some of the hyper kelpies/gundogs etc that we get in the kennels)

I'd feed your guys the Maxi Energy.

Hmm, does that answer anything? (probably not! I'll have to re-read everything after some sleep  )

:) Maxi Energy sounds good. Thanks Pegasus :)

The 4800/4300 is a 20kg bag tho...so you are getting more for your money - or is it an 18kg bag these days?

If you feed RC and you are a breeder you can join the breeder club and get the breeder bags which five you more kg's for less $$
