He doesn't see you as a leader if he can sleep in bed with you and on your lap." Sorry to say totally do not agree with this at all.This would mean the dog never ever has touch time or quality time which no breed of dog can live without. I have 2 setters that sleep on my bed,we have mini schnauzers that curl up daily on our laps,beds etc & never is there any dominance issue simply because there is more to leadership than that. If your dog knows where it fits in the pack than you will have leadership under control at any time. geez even my setter babies curl up asleep on my laps & there is certainly no behavioural issues there Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have a small dog (well, kinda) and I allow her to sleep on my lap. I have had a few issues with her, but have found other ways to deal with them.
